The Knox Board of Public Works members got an update on the water well rehabilitation work recently completely by Peerless Engineering.

Acting Water Superintendent Tim Vogelzang reported that the well was set and a water test showed that everything passed. The well was put back online Wednesday and into rotation on the computer system. The water department crews will be able monitor the progress and have some early numbers to review.

Vogelzang said the well cleaned up nicely.

“It’s the rebuild of the pump itself and also the cleaning of the well casing at the bottom where the screen was.”

He added that the well had not been cleaned since its installation in 1955 and it remains in decent condition.

The cleaning and rebuild cost was just over $28,000. The Knox Board of Works members approved the work done at that cost. The final approval of the claim will be considered by the Knox City Council members at their next meeting on Oct. 9.
