Knox School Board to Discuss School Resource Officer, School Safety

The Knox School Board will continue discussing a potential school resource officer position tonight.

Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart and Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin had discussed the possibility of sharing the cost between the two entities. But the school board held off on any action last month, since it appeared that the Sheriff’s Office didn’t have funding available. The topic is once again listed as a business item on tonight’s meeting agenda, along with school safety.

Board members are also expected to vote on an architect. School officials are in the process of considering possible changes to the school buildings, following a recent facilities study by architectural firm Schmidt Associates.

In other business, the Knox School Board is scheduled to vote on a list of policy updates recommended by policy consultant NEOLA. One would explicitly ban alcohol or betting from events held by outside organizations at school facilities. Other changes have to do with reduction in force policies and requirements for maintaining records following investigations of certain complaints.

The school board is also expected to accept donations for the Graphic Arts and Culinary Arts programs. Tonight’s Knox School Board meeting starts at 6:30 at the Knox Schools Administrative Office.
