Starke County Highway Department Creates Draft Community Crossings Grant Application

Several projects are being considered by the Starke County Highway Department for consideration for INDOT’s Community Crossings grant program.

Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler shared the list with the Starke County Commissioners last week.

“We’re just waiting on the detailed cost estimates from the consultant,” said Ritzler. “INDOT requires detailed cost estimates now which we’ve always given, but not all communities have. As soon as we get those in, we’ll submit those 10 projects. We will not get all 10 of them, but we’ll submit them and whatever we don’t get we’re going to roll over into next year.”

The county will provide a 25 percent match on the total amount of the grant.

Those projects include:
1. Bridge No. 154 replacement
2. Bridge No. 36 replacement reimbursement
3. Realignment of the intersection at County Road 210 and 600 S./old State Road 10
4 . Hot mix asphalt overlay, preventative maintenance on 400 S. from U.S. 421 to County Road 650 W.
5. Hot mix asphalt overlay, preventative maintenance on County Road 50 S. from State Road 39 to the Knox City Limits
