Owner of Unsafe Structure in Knox Updates Board of Works on Progress

Remodeling efforts are stalled at 6 N. Pearl Street after owner Lucia Valladares told the Knox Board of Works members she fired the contractor for several reasons.

She said several aspects of work the former contractor did need to be redone and will be hiring someone else soon to continue work. She wants to get the exterior done before winter sets in. An architect will be looking at what needs to be done and modified plans to show where the foundation pads would need to be to support the second story. Plus, the roof needs to be reevaluated.

She wants to complete the work so someone will be able to call it home someday.

Mayor Dennis Estok told Valladares that she was warned about the contractor before the hiring took place and the amount of work that was needed on the home that was slated for demolition.

Board of Works members unanimously approved a permit extension on a month-to-month basis in order to get the work done.
