One Charged in Armed Robbery Incident at Koontz Lake Gas Station

One of the suspects in an armed robbery incident at the Marathon Gas Station at Koontz Lake has been formally charged in the case. The incident occurred there on Monday, Dec. 3 around 7:30 p.m. CT.

Matthew Sharp, a juvenile whose charges have been waived to adult court, faces counts of Armed Robbery as a Level 3 Felony, Criminal Recklessness as a Level 5 Felony, and Theft as a Class A Misdemeanor.

According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, while armed with a deadly weapon, Sharp threatened to kill the store attendant if he didn’t give him access to the cash register. He also reportedly tried to steal money from the convenience store.

Another juvenile who was detained as a suspect in this case has not been formally charged as the juvenile is being held on a warrant in St. Joseph County.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Department has submitted reports to the prosecutor’s office for review, but no other charges have been filed at this time as officials review paperwork in the case.

This remains as an active investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.
