The entryway widening project at Wythogan Park is expected to get started once the busy season ends.
Knox Mayor Dennis Estok shared a project update with city council members last Tuesday, noting that things are still in the preliminary planning stages at this time.
He explained “We talked about widening that east side so it’s better. I’ve met with the contractor numerous times. We are not going to do that until the season is about over with down there because he actually wants to block off that road completely to do what we have to do.”
Mayor Estok added that after coordinating with the contractor and Street Superintendent Jeff Borg, they opted not to add in sidewalk on the east side, to help keep the project financially feasible. The side that already has a sidewalk will remain untouched.
He noted that they have some ideas for what to do in the area. However, he said the council’s input is also welcome.
Estok said, “I think what were’ going to ask local experts that work as good as the Auckland retaining wall contractors to put a small, retaining wall up and then we’re going to step the bank back and just use regular field stone, lay it back up in there. That’s what that wall is right now, that’s what’s holding all that dirt up. Underneath all that grass in dirt is a lot of stone.”
More updates will be shared with the city council members as the project progresses.
