Oregon-Davis Plans to Hire New Superintendent by July 1

The Oregon-Davis School Corporation plans to have its next superintendent in place by July 1. Education Consultant Jim Dermody told the school board Monday that he’s worked out a timeline with Corporation Attorney Bill Kaminski.

“We have counted out the days,” Dermody said. “We have set up a time for the board. I hope you like it because the brochure is all laid up on these dates. It’s one of those things where we had to get it out. We’re getting behind the eight ball on time because it really has not been advertised.”

The brochure for prospective applicants says applications are due by May 4, with interviews to start a week later. The selection process is scheduled to wrap up by June 22, with the new superintendent officially taking over on July 1. Dermody planned to advertise the opening with several education-related associations in the state and four of the state’s universities.

During Monday’s meeting, board members also accepted the resignation of the current superintendent and junior/senior high school principal, Dr. Don Harman. He’ll take over as executive director of the Northern Indiana Educational Services Center on July 1.

The school board also agreed to let B.J. Awald serve as acting high school principal through June 30. She had already been hired to take over that position officially starting next school year. Dermody felt the early start would help with chain of command and direction for the end of the school year.
