Pulaski County Recognizes National Drug Court Month

Pulaski County Superior Court is joining more than 3,000 court programs in the nation in recognizing National Drug Court Month.

Pulaski County is celebrating the development and implementation of the newly-formed Pulaski County Veterans Treatment Court and the upcoming Pulaski County Family Treatment Court.  Both court programs provide intensive addictions and therapeutic support to those that enter the court system.

Pulaski County Superior Court Judge Crystal Kocher said that substance abuse continues to rise with methamphetamine and heroin use and with that comes overdose deaths, a number that also continues to climb.

Pulaski County’s Veterans Treatment Court will assist veterans who many times use substances in order to reenter the community or deal with life after serving the country.  Coordinated by Dr. Natalie Daily-Federer, it will feature a veteran mentor program as part of the court process where mentors can provide advice, personal experiences, recommendations, and guidance to veterans.

According to Circuit Court Judge Mary Welker, Pulaski County is researching and developing a Family Treatment Court to be operated out of Pulaski County Circuit Court.  The court program development process takes one to two years to develop several aspects of the court.  It will provide assistance to families that suffer from behavioral issues, neglect, drug abuse, and criminal cases.
