Progress continues on projects in the Winamac Town Park. The new restrooms could be done within a month, according to park board member and town manager Brad Zellers.

“As long as Dave can get materials, Dave Schambers. You know, that COVID thing has slowed everything down, as far as trying to get things, so it’s not their fault,” Zellers said during Thursday’s park board meeting. “They’ve had them coming, so it’s just patience, I guess. But I would say within a month, we should be in pretty good shape.”

Park Board President Jon Chapman explained that the current holdup had to do with trusses. The hope is that they’ll arrive early next week.

Zellers said the old toddler playground equipment has been removed, and the new equipment is set to be installed next week.

He’s also been working with someone on plans for the new Frisbee golf course. “He wants to start it somewhere behind the octagon building and go closer to the river,” Zellers said. “I’m personally scared of that. He’s good at it. He won’t have a problem. I think if we start too close to the river, three quarters of the things are going to be in the river.” In any case, Zellers said there’s plenty of room for the nine-hole course, and it could later be expanded to 18 if it’s successful.

All of those projects are being funded, in part, by a Land and Water Conservation Fund matching grant. Several organizations also chipped in money for the playground equipment.
