Knox Fun Day in the Park this Weekend

A parade, farmers market, high school reunion, and of course, fireworks are just a few of the events the City of Knox has planned for the holiday weekend. Mayor Dennis Estok tells WKVI’s Charlie Adams that it was hard getting back in the rhythm after a year off due to COVID, but a record number of volunteers have stepped up to help.

“Right now, we’re set to go and everything’s in check and I can’t wait,” Estok says.

The festivities kick off this evening at 5:00 with a Knox alumni all-class meet and greet in Wythogan Park, with ‘60s tribute band Magic Bus taking the stage at 7:00. Tomorrow starts with the Knox Farmers Market’s opening day from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Main Street between the Starke County Courthouse and the former Moose Lodge. The Knox 4th of July Parade steps off at 1:00 p.m., before the official Fun Day in the Park starts at 2:00.

“We’ve got the bouncy houses,” Estok says. “We’ve got face painting. We’ve got the pony rides for the kids. We’ve got the toy games, which are very popular; we always had them. And then, the food vendors, we’ve got like five different food vendors out there. So you should be able to get anything you want, just about.”

Saturday’s entertainment includes bands, a magic show, and pro wresting. And Estok says there will be some competitions, including a cornhole tournament, burnout contest, and, pending river levels, the return of the Yellow River duck race.

“We have so many good attractions and that, that’s why if you look, time-wise, we try to separate them because you’ll have people that go from the wrestling and run over to the burnout, and so we try to give enough time where everybody can see everything,” Estok explains.

Capping off Saturday’s Fun Day in the Park will be the Knox fireworks show at 9:30 p.m.
