Changes are coming to Knox residents’ trash and recycling at the end of the month. The city council recently decided to switch from Waste Management to Republic Services, effective August 1.
Mayor Dennis Estok says following the last regular pickup, residents should leave out their empty recycling cart on Tuesday, July 27. “It’ll be either the 27th, 28th, and 29th, they will be removing their carts,” Estok told the city council Tuesday.
Republic Services’ new trash and recycling toters will be delivered starting July 26.
Many residents will also see a change to their pickup schedule. Republic Services representatives told council members that trash will be picked up Thursday or Friday, depending on which side of U.S. 35 someone lives on. Recycling will be picked up every other Thursday. The exact schedule still needs to be finalized.
Residents are also likely to see their fees go up, to catch up to the actual cost charged to the city. The city council voted Tuesday to pursue a three-stage increase of 55 cents this year, 57 cents next year, and 58 cents the third year, to a new total of $15.30. But that increase still needs the council’s final approval in the form of an ordinance amendment.
