Police have released more details about Wednesday’s accident involving a school bus in Starke County. North Judson Town Marshal Kelly Fisher says it happened around 2:50 p.m. in the 100 block of East State Road 10.
A North Judson-San Pierre school bus was reportedly stopped at a student’s house “with all the proper signals displayed,” when it was hit from behind by a 2015 Ford F-150. Fisher says the incident took place in rainy conditions on wet pavement. The driver of the pickup truck, John Bedwell of New Richmond, Indiana, reportedly told police that his brakes failed, and he wasn’t able to stop and avoid the accident.
Bedwell was taken by ambulance to the hospital with minor injuries, and a juvenile female passenger on the bus also had minor injuries.
