The Starke County Youth Club has a lot to offer children in the Starke County community. Members of the community can help support those efforts during the annual Starke County Youth Club Radiothon on Friday, May 6.
Executive Director Irene Szakonyi told the Starke County Council members last week that the ongoing donation support from generous residents assists children with tools that help them beyond the time spent with the Starke County Youth Club.
“We’re able to wrap around them with a network of support that helps make sure they will make better choices in their lives,” said Szakonyi. “They have the compassion and care around them so that they can do well in school and do well in the rest of their lives.”
In addition to the Math, Science and literacy help offered by the Starke County Youth Club, Szakonyi said a stronger focus has been on Art this year.
Szakonyi continued, “We’ve been able to help our kids learn about famous artists and artistic methods and helping kids understand that everybody can be an artist. I can’t draw. I can’t really do a portrait, but I can still have an artistic expression. That’s been really good for our kids.”
As a whole, Szakonyi said the Starke County Youth Club is good for the entire community.
“It is one of the pieces of the puzzle that help us be a community that can be successful,” stated Szakonyi.
The Starke County Youth Club Radiothon is Friday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT and will be live on K99.3 WKVI. To make donations on that day, call 574-772-6241, or visit www.thescyc.org.
