Knox Community School Board Recognizes Student Who Performed Heroic Act

The Knox Community School Board members recognized a student last week who recently performed a heroic act while at school, according to Superintendent Greg Mikulich.

Mikulich stated, “Eighth grader Brendon Dickson actually performed the Heimlich maneuver on another student and actually saved him! The student was choking and pieces of food went flying. We wanted to recognize him and tell him thank you for the great, heroic act that he did.”

The board also reorganized for the new year with Jason Downs elected president, Wendy McIntire is vice president, and Kirk Bennett is the secretary.

Kasey Clark was retained as treasurer and a deputy treasurer is anticipated to be appointed during the board’s next meeting. Erin Duff is the board’s legislative liaison, Alan Selge and Dolores Surfus were appointed to the Starke County Historical Society, Sharon Shorter to the Indiana Cooperative Library Services Authority, William Kaminski as the board’s legal counsel, Gary Dulin as the Knox Park Board representative, and Autumn Ferch as the Knox Redevelopment Commission representative.
