North Judson Town Council Receives Update on Starke County Youth Club

Executive Director Irene Szakonyi and Mark Vendl from the Starke County Youth Club presented an update on club activities to the North Judson Town Council last week.

Szakonyi noted that over 300 children participate in programs across the county that include homework help and enrichment activities that provide academic and personal success. There is something for all children from kindergarten to 12th grade. She noted that the program impacts those who participate, and even some return after graduation to continue to serve students in the county.

She reminded the council about the Starke County Youth Club Radiothon scheduled for Friday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on WKVI where students, families, donors and dignitaries will discuss on the air how the Youth Club benefits children and the community. She encouraged the council members and those in attendance at the meeting to listen that day and to make a donation toward the future of Starke County children.

In addition to the report on the Youth Club, Mint Festival President Donna Henry said things are moving along as they are working on completing the famous green paper that lists all of the activities during this year’s event and the many people and sponsors who help present the annual festival. Councilman Eric Lewandowski pointed out that there are a number of vendors who have signed up for booth space during the Father’s Day weekend event.

The Mint Festival Pageant is set for May 17. Pageant registration information can be found at the North Judson Town Hall.
