
The Indiana State Police Lafayette Post has provided an update in regards to the officer-involved shooting that took place following a vehicle pursuit in Winamac this week.
According to information shared by the Indiana State Police, the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased driver as Keith C. Ernest, age 56, of Winamac.
The preliminary autopsy report indicates that Ernest died from a self-inflicted contact gunshot wound to the head.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 16th when a police pursuit ended in Winamac. The driver exited the vehicle and was armed. The original report indicated that it was believed that both the driver, now identified as Keith C. Ernest, and an on-scene officer both discharged their firearms during the incident.
Ernest was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
