Pulaski County Candidates Who Filed Late Financial Reports Have a Chance to Appeal Their Fine

Pulaski County candidates who filed their financial reports after the deadline will have a chance to appeal their fine next month.

State statute stipulates that candidates had to have their campaign finance reports turned into the county clerk’s office by noon on October 19th. Candidates who filed late are charged $50 a day starting at 12:01 p.m. They can be charged a maximum of $1,000. Continue reading

The event will run from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. HealthLinc Representative Angie Garner said there will be snacks and giveaways at the event. Senator Mike Bohacek and State Representative Jim Pressel visited the Starke County Justice Center Monday afternoon to recognize Sheriff Bill Dulin for the incredible impact he’s made on the community.

Oregon-Davis School Board Approves Recommendation for New Assistant Principal and Athletic Director

The Oregon-Davis School Board members met in special session on Friday morning to consider a recommendation for the new Junior/Senior High Assistant Principal and Athletic Director.

Superintendent Dr. Don Harmon said the members unanimously approved the recommendation that was made by the interview committee.

He explained, “Through an extensive interview process, our high school principal Mr. Chris Matthys and a team of staff members interviewed several individuals. Through that process, the recommendation was for Michael Siwy.” Continue reading

Internal Controls Training Covered at Knox City Council Meeting

During his report at Tuesday’s Knox City Council meeting, Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston discussed some internal controls training that’s required annually.

Houston explained, “This is where people working for the city are watching to make sure that there isn’t any kind of waste, fraud or abuse going on, that the accounting is being done correctly, that things aren’t being stolen or anything like that. The state has some training, it’s about 30 minutes, you watch a film.” Continue reading

Tonight’s ‘Bluegrass Jam’ Event in Knox Will Help Assist Hungry Starke County Citizens

Community members are invited to bring non-perishable food donations to the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center tonight in order to gain access to the Country Music and Gospel Bluegrass Jam event hosted by the City of Knox.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. and wrap up around 10 p.m.

Earlier this week, Mayor Dennis Estok told city council members and meeting attendees that there will be a few bands that typically perform during this annual event. However, he noted that it’s open to community musicians as well. Continue reading

Starke County Clerk’s Office Warns of Fake Early Voting Texts

The Starke County Clerk’s Office has received a number of inquiries from concerned citizens about text messages regarding early voting.

Starke County Clerk Vicki Cooley stated that one of the texts apparently claims an individual’s early vote has not been recorded as of yet. She said if you receive one of these messages it is important to know that it is absolutely not from the Starke County Clerk’s Office. Continue reading

SCILL Center Students to Rake Leaves for Knox Residents in Need of Assistance

The SCILL Center is once again teaming up with the City of Knox to provide some fall time lawn care assistance to senior citizens and physically disabled residents.

Drop Off Hygiene Products at the SCILL Center to Help the Kid’s Closet Ministry

In addition to supplying Starke County’s youth with school supplies and clothing, the Kid’s Closet Ministry also provides hygiene kits for kids and teens.

To help the organization replenish their supplies, students and staff involved with the Starke County Initiative for Lifelong Learning (SCILL) are collecting hygiene products now throughout the month of November. Continue reading

North Judson-San Pierre School Board Approves eLearning Policy

North Judson-San Pierre School members held the final reading over the schools eLearning policy when members met last Tuesday.

The members provided unanimous approval for the policy. Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin noted that following fall break, teachers will be engaging in some purposeful planning for eLearning practice lessons to prepare students for future eLearning days. Continue reading
