Pulaski County has a new Emergency Medical Services director. Bryan Corn was selected to fill the position, in a two-to-one vote by the county commissioners Tuesday.

Oregon-Davis School Board Gets Update on School Improvement Plans, Quarterly Assessments
The Oregon-Davis School Corporation is taking steps to better track students’ progress. Superintendent Dr. Don Harman says it’s part of the latest round of school improvement plans. “We’re using quarterly assessments to measure our students,” he says, “instead of just a one-year assessment, for example, with ISTEP.”

Pulaski County Sheriff Jeff Richwine is seeking pay raises for some of his employees. During last week’s county council meeting, he asked if part-time dispatcher Susan Hemphill could be bumped up to a higher pay level. “She was a full-time dispatcher, left, and then came back as a part-time person,” Richwine explained. Pulaski County Commissioners to Award Paving, Dump Truck Bids
The Pulaski County Commissioners will make another attempt at choosing a paving contractor when they meet this morning. The county has gotten bids from three companies for hot mix asphalt work on County Road 200 South from U.S. 421 to State Road 39 and County Road 400 East from 200 North to 400 North.

Pualski County Maintenance Supervisor Seeks More Money for Part-Time Help, Building Repair
2018 may have just started, but some Pulaski County officials are already preparing for shortfalls in this year’s budgets. Maintenance Supervisor Jeff Johnston told the county council last week there isn’t enough money for part-time help. “I guess the numbers were taken off of last year, when I only had two part-time people, and I’ve got four,” he said. “So I’ve only got enough for two of my part-time people. In order to pay them the rest of this year, that additional is $42,360.”

Eastern Pulaski School Board to Finalize Plans for Paving Project
The Eastern Pulaski School Board is expected to finalize plans for its summer paving project tonight. School officials hope to resurface the driveways and most of the parking lots on the schools’ campus. Plans also call for sidewalk repair, and traffic flow updates.

Flu Prompts Visitor Restrictions at Starke Hospital
Starke Hospital is restricting visitors, to try to slow the spread of the flu. Under the temporary restrictions, only two visitors will be allowed with a patient at a time. No visitors under 18 will be permitted.
Pulaski County Health Department Faces Funding Challenges
Funding challenges are causing concerns for the Pulaski County Health Department. “In doing our year-end reports for our health board meeting, it’s come to our attention that we only received about $40,000 in settlement this year,” Department Office Manager Terri Hansen told the county council Monday. “We usually get at least double that.”
