Upgrades to Starke Street in Hamlet will likely have to wait until next spring. Following improvements earlier this year at the intersection with Plymouth Street, the town plans to continue the upgrades all the way north to U.S. 30.

Medaryville Council Considers Additional Storm Drain Connections
A measure to improve drainage at some Medaryville properties remains under consideration by the town council. Council members are working on an ordinance that would let more residents connect to the town’s storm drain, according to Deputy Clerk Jackie Hines.
Unemployment Rates Up from Previous Month, Down from Last Year
Unemployment rates were a bit higher in July than the month before, but still better than the same period last year. Starke County’s rate climbed to four percent last month, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. That’s a half a percent higher than June, but a full percentage point lower than July of 2016.
Public Hearing Tonight for North Judson Sewer, Water Projects
The North Judson Town Council will hold a public hearing tonight on proposed water and sewer upgrades. The town plans to pursue a loan through the State Revolving Fund, as well as grant funding from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, to rehabilitate the two water towers, add a well, and upgrade the existing well pumps, among other improvements.

A new door control system at the Pulaski County Justice Center is expected to be discussed by the county commissioners this morning. Sheriff Jeff Richwine told the county council last week that the current system is original to the building and doesn’t always work properly anymore. On top of that, replacement parts are getting difficult to find.
