Rep. Walorski to Present Jobs and Veterans Resource Fair Tomorrow in Mishawaka

Job-seekers have a chance to meet with representatives from 55 employers during a job fair tomorrow in Mishawaka. It will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Bethel College Wiekamp Athletic Center. First Wave of Free Concerts Announced for Indiana State Fair

If your summer plans include a trip to the Indiana State Fair, you may want to schedule it around the free nightly concerts. Fair officials have announced the first five of 17 shows that will be part of the Chevrolet Silverado Free Stage headline entertainment during the fair, which runs Aug. 4-20, 2017. Knox Officials Dedicate Veterans Parkway

A road at the south end of the Knox City Limits has a new name. Last summer the city used Community Crossings grant money to connect 150 South between Roosevelt Road and South Heaton Street. During a dedication ceremony yesterday, Mayor Dennis Estok told the crowd of veterans, family members and city officials the former county road needed a new name. Continue reading

STEM Teacher Training Grants Available from Indiana Commission for Higher Education

 

Organizations working to help train teachers in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields can apply for a share of nearly $10 million from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. The goal of the state’s STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund is to prepare and retain educators in Indiana public schools where there are shortages of STEM teachers.  Continue reading

Sponsors Sought for Additional Wythogan Park Band Stage Events

Knox officials are set to cut the ribbon for the city’s newest amenity today and are hoping it will get lots of use throughout the summer.

The performance stage in Wythogan Park will be dedicated at 2:30 p.m. The brief program will be followed by a free concert in the park sponsored by the city. Jim Pulse will start the entertainment at 3 p.m. and will play until 5 or 5:30. After that Half Track will take the stage and play until whenever. The performances coincide with the car show in the park, which will be followed by a cruise night. Continue reading

Snowdon Selected as Starke County Assessor

Starke County has a new assessor. Longtime assessor’s office employee Michelle Snowdon was unanimously chosen during a Democratic Party caucus Thursday. Snowdon replaces Rhonda Milner, who officially stepped down from the position Friday afternoon. Continue reading

Knox School Board Approves List of Summer School Teachers

 

The Knox School Board has finalized arrangements for next month’s summer school classes. On Monday, board members approved a list of 19 summer school teachers and aides. However, Interim Superintendent Jim Dermody explained that each middle and high school class will only be offered if at least 15 students sign up, due to Indiana Department of Education funding guidelines. Culver Building Trades Open House Set for Sunday

The members of the Culver Building Trades class invite the residents of Culver to an open house on Sunday, May 28 to see their finished assigned project.

Culver Community Interim Superintendent Chuck Kitchell told the school board in a recent public meeting that the students worked on building a garage underneath a small house. He added that the job was unique as the owners wanted a different concept for the project that was selected for this year.

The open house is Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. ET at 728 Nueva Gorda Street in Culver.

Knox Seniors Take Honor Walk Through Elementary School

Knox High School’s graduating seniors took one last walk through their old elementary school before they graduate. Wearing their caps and gowns, the seniors walked in procession through the elementary school Friday morning, as “Pomp and Circumstance” played over the school’s intercom. The elementary students lined the hallways to high-five the soon-to-be graduates. Continue reading
