A La Porte man was taken into custody earlier this week on active warrants and new charges of dealing cocaine are pending through the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office.
Members of La Porte County Drug Task Force and the Fugitive Apprehension Street Team arrested Vandrick Buchanan, 29, on a warrant through La Porte Circuit Court for a revocation on dealing cocaine, a Class B felony, plus a La Porte County Superior Court #3 warrant for failure to appear. Money was also reportedly confiscated from Buchanan during his arrest.
A crash on U.S. 6 west of Walkerton claimed the life of a South Bend man Thursday. LaPorte County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with fire and EMS crews, responded to the intersection of U.S. 6 and 875 East around 12:15 p.m. Continue reading
The North Judson Town Council has hired an appraiser for their railroad line. During a special-called Wednesday meeting members agreed to pay Alexandria, Va.-based G.W. Fauth & Associates an amount not to exceed $35,000 for the work. It will mark the first appraisal the town has had of the rail line since taking over ownership in 2004. Continue reading
The Culver Redevelopment Commission (CRC) will meet today to discuss the Sand Hill Farms workforce housing.
The Culver Town Council members made their decision on two resolutions this week and the CRC is expected to discuss the same resolutions during their meeting today. The town council members voted 4-1 to approve a resolution to authorize funding of the project. A separate resolution was approved 4-1 to enter into an agreement between the Town of Culver and Sand Hill Farms, Inc. for the development of the project.
The City of Knox is celebrating Memorial Day by officially renaming a road in honor of service members. Mayor Dennis Estok says members of the VFW and American Legion will take part in Monday’s dedication ceremony for Veterans Parkway. Continue reading

The Town of Culver’s website will be getting a facelift.
The Culver Town Council approved a quote from Satellite Software to update the town’s website.
The quote of $1,859 will allow the company to reformat the website to a WordPress template. Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim, Town Manager Jonathan Leist and Park Superintendent Anna Campbell will be trained on how to use the program to easily update the site.
Memorial Day travel will be at its highest level this weekend since 2005, according to projections from AAA. That’s in spite of higher gas prices, airfares, hotel prices, and car rental rates. Continue reading
A Valparaiso man has been arrested after allegedly impersonating a police officer at the Kingsbury Fish & Wildlife Area in LaPorte County. Austin Shultz, 20, was arrested Thursday by Indiana Conservation Officers.
The finalists for the 2017 Stellar Communities Designation Program were announced early Thursday morning.
The Town of Culver was selected a finalist for the second consecutive year. Finalist communities are divided into two different categories based on population for the designation award. Culver will be placed into Division 2 which is for communities that have a population of 5,999 or less. Culver will compete against the Town of Churubusco in Whitley County and the City of Union City in Randolph County.
The City of Knox is set to kick off the summer season with a full Saturday of activities. Mayor Dennis Estok says registration begins at 2 p.m. for the annual car show, which will get under way at 3 in Wythogan Park.
