County Proceeding With Courthouse, Old Jail Renovations
Renovations to the Starke County Courthouse and former jail in downtown Knox are on track to start in July and conclude by the end of the year. The county commissioners last night approved design and development documents for the project. Plans call for the old jail to be renovated into office space for Starke County Community Corrections, the probation department and Purdue Extension.
The courthouse will be reconfigured to accommodate the prosecutor’s office on the first floor and give the clerk’s office additional space on the second level. Public access to the building would be restricted to one door, and metal detectors would be installed. Continue reading
Questions Raised About Missing Knox PTO Money
Funds, raised for the purchase of elementary school playground equipment, estimated to be as much as $22,000, are alleged to be unaccounted for, according to Charlene Libbey and Shelly Kemble, representatives of the Lil’ Redskins Booster Club.

The Town of North Judson has decided to postpone tonight’s town council meeting, following the death of Town Marshal Doug Vessely late last week. Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins says the meeting has been moved to Thursday, April 21 at 6:30 p.m.
Renovation Plans on Starke County Commissioners Agenda
The Starke County Commissioners will review the final draft of plans for renovations at the old jail and courthouse when they meet tonight. The architect and contractor who designed and built the new jail east of Knox are on the agenda to provide details. The former jail will become office space for Starke County Community Corrections, the probation department and Purdue Extension, according to discussion at previous meetings. Absentee Voting Continues Ahead of May Primary
Starke and Pulaski counties continue to see good voter turnout during early primary voting. Since absentee voting for next month’s primary began on April 5, Starke County’s had 169 voters cast ballots in person, while 122 have voted by mail. Absentee ballots are also adding up in Pulaski County, where 139 people have voted in person and 29 have voted by mail, as of Friday afternoon. Continue reading
Winamac Council Approves Leak Survey, Budget Transfer
