West Central School Board Discusses Reductions in Force

West Central School CorporationThe West Central School Board last week took the first steps to lay off teachers if necessary. Superintendent Don Street says the corporation has lost nearly $500,000 due to changes in the way the state funds schools. Hospital CEO Reaffirms Commitment to New Facility

 
 

The CEO of Starke Hospital says the new owners of the local facility would prefer to construct a new building on the existing site at the intersection of South Heaton Street and Culver Road. The county owns the land and the building, but Tennessee-based Community Health Systems now owns 80-percent of the hospital. IU Health has retained 20-percent ownership, and a subsidy of CHS is running the day-to-day operations. The name change to simply “Starke Hospital” reflects the shift, and a new branding symbol is in the works. Continue reading

Eastern Pulaski School Board to Consider Policy Updates

 
 

The Eastern Pulaski School Board will consider a federally-mandated increase in cafeteria meal prices when they meet this evening. The agenda for their 5:30 p.m. session also includes consideration of several policies on first reading. They include internal controls, collection and forgiveness of debt and criminal gangs and gang activities in schools. The latter is also a mandate for schools across Indiana. Continue reading
