2/26/16 – A Knox resident reported fraudulent listings on South Bend Craigslist. The poster reportedly is using her son’s name, address and cell phone number, and she advised some of the callers are being rude about the situation.

2/26/16 – The owner of a business on U.S. 30 in Hamlet reported receiving two telephone calls from 844-523-9869. The caller claimed to be with NIPSCO, threatened to shut off service due to non-payment and demanded money immediately. She spoke to her boss and called NIPSCO and was advised this was a scam.

2/26/16 – An official with the KL Supermarket in Koontz Lake reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be with NIPSCO telling him to pay a certain amount or have his service suspended. He contacted NIPSCO and was advised it was a scam. He did not send any money but wanted to make authorities aware of the call.

2/26/16 – A Knox resident reportedly received a call from a man claiming to be from the IRS and saying she owed $2,400 in back taxes from 2010. He called from telephone number 703-743-7978, said his name was Jason White and spoke with a broken accent.

2/26/16 – A resident in the 1700 block of South 1200 East in Culver reported the theft of a generator.

2/26/16 – A resident in the 7700 block of North State Road 23 reported receiving a telephone call from NIPSCO requesting money or her service would be disconnected. She advised they paid the money then called NIPSCO and was told it was a scam.

2/26/16 – The Starke County Sheriff’s Office, Hamlet Fire Department, Hamlet Police Department and Starke County EMS responded to a report of a vehicle rollover on U.S. 30 and 1100 East in Hamlet.

2/28/16 – A resident in the 300 block of North State Road 23 in Knox reported the neighbors shooting pistols behind their residence and advised they are not supposed to be.

2/28/16 – A middle school student reported being harassed by a known suspect on Snap Chat and social media.

2/28/16 – A Knox resident reported receiving harassing text messages and calls from her daughter’s ex.

2/22/16 – North Judson Police responded to a traffic hazard in the area of State Road 39 and 3rd Street.

2/22/16 – North Judson Police responded to an animal complaint report in the 300 block of Main Street. The problem was corrected by the owner.

2/23/16 – A resident in the 600 block of E. Talmer Avenue reported to North Judson Police that their car was stolen sometime in the middle of the night.

2/23/16 – A property damage accident occurred at the intersection of Main Street and Park Avenue. North Judson Chief Deputy Joe Budner estimated the damages at over $1,000.00.

2/24/16 – North Judson Police responded to an unwanted guest complaint in the 100 block of East Sycamore Street. The person left without incident.

2/24/16 – North Judson Police responded to a traffic accident with injuries in the area of U.S. 421 and CR 400 S. A vehicle heading west on CR 400 S. slid into the path of vehicle heading north on U.S. 421 due to the slick road conditions. The driver of the vehicle that slid through the intersection was transported to IU Starke Hospital with minor injuries. North Judson Police Chief Doug Vessely investigated and estimated the damages at over $10,000.00. North Judson Police were assisted by Starke County EMS and the San Pierre Fire Department.

2/19/16 – A San Pierre woman reported her car stolen. She advised her daughter has been using it and will not bring it back and she was told to report it stolen.

2/21/16 – The caretaker of the Bass Lake Cemetery in Knox found meth trash and notified the sheriff’s office.

Announcements:

North Judson residents who live within the town limits and own cats or dogs are required to have proper tags for their animals. The grace period expired Feb. 15th. Tags may be obtained from the town office at 310 Lane Street. Town Marshal Doug Vessely says anyone who does not have the proper tags for their animal may be fined up to $50 per pet. Animals must remain on their owner’s property or be walked on a leash at all times.

Vessely also reminds pet owners to clean up after their animals.

Incidents:

2/14/16 – An investigation into the Feb. 13th hit and run in front of the North Judson United Methodist Church has come together. A complete report requesting charges has been sent to the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.

2/15/16 – Several loose dogs were reported in the 200 block of Franklin Street.

2/16/16 – After a property damage incident in the 400 Block of West Talmer Avenue, both parties agreed to a settlement.

2/16/16 – North Judson Police responded to a report of threats and harassment in the 500 block of Vine Street.

2/17/16 – North Judson Police received another report of loose dogs in the 400 block of Main Street. They were gone when the officer arrived.

2/19/16 – A female student at North Judson-San Pierre High School reported the theft of cash from the locker room during gym class.

IRS officials do not contact delinquent taxpayers by telephone.

1/27/16 – An employee of the U.S. 35 Flea Market in Knox reported a break in.
1/27/16 – An employee of Jackson Refrigeration in North Judson filed a fraud report after a customer in North Judson attempted to pay for a furnace repair with a credit card that was declined and did not make other payment arrangements.
1/27/16 – A North Judson resident reported receiving a phony customer service call from Mediacom to upgrade her receiver and asking for credit card information. She also received a text from 213-217-9999 stating it was from Mediacom. She called Mediacom and was advised nobody called.

10/25/15 – North Judson Police took a vandalism report after a home in the 100 block of George Street was egged and TPd.

10/26/15 – North Judson Police took a report of an unlawful residential entry resulting in the theft of a flat screen television. Civil and domestic concerns are also involved, according to police.

10/27/15 – North Judson Police Chief Doug Vessely investigated a personal injury accident at the intersection of SR 10 and Lane Street. A vehicle heading north on Wilson Street was crossing State Road 10 onto Lane Street and struck a vehicle traveling westbound on State Road 10. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was taken to IU Health Starke Hospital by ambulance with complaints of neck and back pain. The Starke County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police assisted with the investigation. Damage was estimated at almost $3,000.

10/28/15 – Extra patrols were requested in the 600 block of Keller Avenue.

10/28/15 – A women reported being scammed out of about $1,200 over the Internet. She was contacted via email by someone claiming to be her granddaughter asking for help and money. In this case there is no available recourse due to the way the money was transferred. Another scam reported this week involved a threat of arrest if funds weren’t transferred to the IRS within 45 minutes. North Judson Police note these are scams. They advise anyone who gets an email or telephone call from a family member asking for money to call the number they have for the person or call their parents before sending money. North Judson Police Chief Doug Vessely also reminds people the IRS will not make telephone calls to collect money. They will use the U.S. Mail and will not make threatening telephone calls. Vessely reminds people to not give their bank or credit card numbers out over the telephone unless they initiate contact with someone and to contact the police regarding any suspicious activity. He adds the best thing to do is to hang up on would-be scam callers.

10/29/15 – Officials at a local school reported a custody dispute to North Judson Police.

10/29/15 – North Judson Police responded to a trespassing complaint and a civil matter in the 300 block of Lane Street. Information was forwarded to the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office for review and consideration of possible charges.

10/31/15 – An aluminum boat was reported stolen from the 100 block of State Street. It is believed the older boat was scrapped.

10/31/15 – A North Judson officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with an expired registration on Talmer Avenue at Ono Drive. The vehicle was previously reported stolen out of LaPorte County. A report was provided to the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office for the consideration of charges, and the vehicle was impounded.

11/02/15 – Officers responded to a suspicious circumstance complaint in the 600 block of East Talmer Ave.

11/02/15 – A North Judson resident was walking in the area of east Weninger Street and Walnut Street reported being followed by a group of juveniles. The officer was unable to locate the youngsters.

11/03/15 – North Judson Police responded to a property damage accident in the area of SR 10 and CR 250 W. Damages are estimated at over $2,500.

11/04/15 – A neighbor dispute was reported to in the 300 block of Leslie Street.

11/05/15 – North Judson Police were called to the 400 block of Keller Avenue in reference to an unwanted subject. The subject left walking to his parents’ home.

11/06/15 – A resident in the area of Sycamore and Mullberry Streets reported a traffic complaint and requested extra patrols.

11/09/15 – North Judson Police responded to a suspicious person complaint in the 600 block of Oakwood Street. Chief Doug Vessely found subject on Lane Street and he advised he was looking for someone.

11/15/15 – A resident in the 100 block of State Street reported the theft of items from unlocked vehicles. The North Judson Police Department reminds residents to make sure their vehicles and homes are locked to prevent such incidents.

11/17/15 – North Judson Police assisted a stranded motorist in the area of State Road 10 and 775 West. Officers provided traffic control until a tow truck arrived.

9/22/15 – Good to Go reported a female shoplifter. The suspect left prior to the officer’s arrival. A report was sent to the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office for review and possible charges.

9/24/15 – A verbal trespass warning was issued to an unwanted guest at Burger King. The man was told he would be arrested if he returns.

9/27/15 – An officer responded to a harassment complaint in the 300 block of Leslie Street and took a report.

9/28/15 – A second harassment complaint was filed involving the parties from the previous day in the 300 block of Leslie Street.

9/30/15 – Officers responded to an intimidation call involving a separated couple. A copy of the report was forwarded to the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.

9/30/15 – Officers were notified of a juvenile being battered. According to the investigating officer, two youngsters were playing and a shoving match ensued. After one juvenile went home, his father returned and battered the other juvenile. No serious injuries were reported, but the father was arrested.

9/30/15 – Officers responded to another intimidation call in the 100 block of Sycamore Street, took a report and sent it to the prosecutor’s office for review.

10/1/15 – North Judson police were advised of some suspicious noises coming from the area of the U-Lock storage units in the 800 block of Talmer Ave. Officers checked the area, walked around the building and did not find any sign of problems.

10/3/15 – Officers responded to a report of two people going door-to-door on Mint Road just outside the town limits The pair did not have the proper permits and left the area.

8/10/15 – North Judson Police took a vandalism report from a resident in the 500 block of Arlington Avenue. The resident says his company work truck was vandalized the previous evening and someone punctured tires on his personal vehicle.

8/21/15 – North Judson K9 Officer Scott Beishuizen conducted a traffic stop in the 400 block of E. Talmer Avenue. K9 Gunner indicated the possible presence of narcotics in the vehicle. The driver, Joshua J. Howard, 32, of North Judson, and passenger, Sandra Marie Howard, 33, of North Judson, were arrested on possession of methamphetamine, possession of a synthetic drug and possession of paraphernalia charges.

8/22/15 – A resident reported juveniles placing pieces of wood with nails in the roadway in the area of Walnut Street between Second And Third Streets. The incident was resolved.

8/31/15 – North Judson Police investigated verbal dispute between some juveniles and an adult male at Norwayne Field.

8/31/15 – A parent called the police and reported her son was being harassed. Officers spoke to the parent and the boy accused of harassing.

9/01/15 – North Judson Police responded to a minor theft at Subway involving a former employee and issued a no trespassing warning.

9/02/15 – Police responded to a report of a North Judson-San Pierre High School student possibly in possession of marijuana.

9/03/15 – A citizen reported some juveniles stole a speed limit sign on Collins Street. The incident remains under investigation, and a $50 reward is available for the arrest and conviction of the parties involved. Call the North Judson Police 547-772-5914.

9/7/15 – An intimidation report was taken at the North Judson Police station in reference to a woman threatening the complainant on the telephone. A copy of the report was forwarded to the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

9/8/15 – North Judson Police responded to a minor property damage accident in the CVS parking lot. Damage was estimated at more than $1,000.

9/9/15 – North Judson Police Chief Doug Vessely took a juvenile battery report and sent a copy to the Starke County Prosecutor.

9/10/15 – A resident in the 6100 block of South John Street reported an attempted residential break-in and damage to some items. The incident is still under investigation.

9/12/15 – A resident reported of a stop sign down at the intersection of Clinton Street and Arlington Avenue. NJ Police contacted the town street department to correct the problem.

9/13/15 – Officers responded to a report of trespassers at the Old Cravens building on Sheridan Avenue and removed four juveniles who were exploring the area.

9/16/15 – Officers responded to a report of a shoplifter at the Dollar General Store in North Judson. Valerie Rose Haddix, 46, of North Judson, was arrested on a theft charge. While processing her, the officers reportedly found methamphetamine and a syringe.

9/18/15 – A North Judson Police K-9 assisted traffic stop in the 600 block of Talmer Ave. resulted in three arrests. The driver, Brett A. Baros of San Pierre, and a passenger, Cody C. Walker of San Pierre, were arrested for possession of marijuana. A passenger, Matthew Diaz, was wanted on a bench warrant.

9/19/15 – Officers responded to a report of two people who appeared to be passed out in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Good to Go Oil Company on Talmer Ave. An investigation resulted in the arrests of Alex Fawley, 47, of Knox, and Julie A. Joseph, 43, also of Knox.

7/28/15 – North Judson Police responded to a call of juveniles playing on and around boxcars near the tracks at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum. They were gone when officers arrived.

7/29/15 – A citizen reported people possibly going through parked cars in the 600 block of Keller Ave. Police arrived within minutes and did not find anyone. North Judson Police Chief Doug Vessely reminds all citizens to keep their vehicles locked when they are unattended.

7/30/15 – Officers interviewed three juveniles about a residential entry in the 200 block of McClellan Street and furnished a complete report to the prosecutor’s office.

8/2/15 – Officers received a call reporting shots fired near the north side of town. They located some target shooters outside of the city limits. Shooting was halted for the evening.

8/4/15 – North Judson Police took a harassment report from an employee in the 600 block of Talmer Ave. involving harassing text messages and telephone calls. NJ Police took an Harassment report from an employee in the 600 block of Talmer Avenue. This was an information report involving harassing texts and phone calls.

7/29/15 – Officers were called to the BP gas station on South Heaton Street in Knox, where an employee advised a man threw a rock at a female customer’s windshield. The man reportedly left and headed to CVS. An arrest was made.

8/2/15 – Police took a theft report from a resident in the 400 block of East Lake Street in Knox. The victim advised gasoline had been siphoned from two vehicles three times in the past three weeks.

7/30/15 – A large tree limb fell on a Starke County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle assigned to Det. Sgt. Adam Gray, causing considerable damage to the top, sides and rear window. The county’s insurance company was notified. No injuries were reported.

8/1/15 – A resident in the 100 block of west William Howard Dr. in North Judson advised a pickup truck with two men just pulled into her yard and they beat her son.

7/20/15 – The North Judson Police responded to an animal complaint in the 300 block of Franklin Street. A dog owner had to purchase an animal tag.

7/20/15 – A North Judson resident was cited for no dog tags after police responded to an abandoned dog complaint in the 600 block of Keller Avenue

7/20/15 – A North Judson resident told police she was trying to buy a rare, endangered monkey online. Officers explained this is a scam and advised her not to send more money. Police Chief Doug Vessely reminds residents never to send cash, a money order or any type of Western Union, Green Dot or other prepaid cards to anyone you encounter online. Such requests for payment are red flags for a potential scam, as funds cannot be traced. Vessely adds animals like endangered monkeys cannot be sent via mail.

7/21/15 – A purse was taken from an unlocked vehicle in the Good to Go parking lot on West Talmer Avenue. North Judson Police checked the video and recovered the purse and its contents. A full report is pending with the Starke County prosecutor.

7/21/15 – Juvenile vandalism was reported in the North Judson Town Park.

7/23/15 – North Judson Little League officials reported the theft of items from their concession stand. The season is not over, but all items have been removed. North Judson Police are studying videotapes to determine the identity of the suspects as the investigation continues.

7/24/15 – North Judson Police responded to a property damage accident in the Good to Go parking lot on West Talmer Avenue.

7/25/15 – A home in the 200 block of McCellan was recently broken into and vandalized was entered and vandalized. North Judson Police are investigating and have a few suspects.

7/25/15 – North Judson Police responded to an animal complaint. The dog was seized and taken to the Starke County Humane Society.

7/25/15 – North Judson Police found several juveniles running atop some boxcars on the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum property. The youngsters were returned to their parents.

7/06/15 – North Judson Police Chief Doug Vessely handled a minor property damage accident in the Burger King drive thru. Vessely estimated the damage at under $1000 and issued the person at fault a ticket for no financial responsibility.

7/06/15 – North Judson Police conducted a traffic stop in town where and found some paraphernalia in the vehicle. Charges are being considered

7/09/15 – The North Judson police responded to a report of a women passed out in a vehicle parked at the gas pumps at the Good to Go Station. North Judson Officer Rico Simpson arrested Stefanie Cole, 31, of North Judson, on charges of disorderly conduct, public intoxication and resisting law enforcement. The Starke County Sheriff’s Office assisted. Formal Charges are pending.

7/10/15 – North Judson Police took a report of damage to a door in the 100 block of Lane Street.

7/10/15 – North Judson Officer Frank Thomas conducted a traffic stop in the area of Oakwood and Arlington Streets and arrested the driver, Scott D. Helmcke, 51, of, North Judson for driving while suspended prior.

7/10/15 – Officers took a theft report for a cell phone that was reported stolen near the park. It was returned to its owner after some juveniles advised someone had sold them the phone.

7/12/15 – The North Judson Police responded to a report of an intoxicated person who had battered a female neighbor. Dan Williams, 80, allegedly tried to shove open a storm door, pushed against a 69-year-old woman and caused swelling to her arm. Williams was arrested on a battery charge.

7/12/15 – A cell phone was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle at the North Judson Town Park. It was found and returned to the owner after a brief investigation. Police Chief Doug Vessely stresses the importance of locking vehicles when they are not attended.

7/13/15 – The North Judson Police were advised of an elderly gentleman riding a bicycle in the rain on 300 West near 6200. He was returned home safe.

7/13/15 – A resident in the 200 Block of Schricker Avenue reported several holes and cuts into the back wall of her garage.

7/16/15 – Officers were notified of several children playing on the railroad tracks and in the depot area. Police spoke with the juveniles and their parents and told them to stop playing by the tracks.

7/18/15 – Officers investigated a property damage accident in the Wooden Nickel parking lot. Damage was less than $1,000, and the drivers exchanged information.

7/18/15 – A hit and run accident was reported in the parking lot of the apartments in the 300 block of Main Street. A brown pickup truck pulling out of the lot backed into a vehicle owned by another tenant. The crash remains under investigation.

7/19/15- North Judson Officer Brack Rowe was asked to back up a Starke County Community Corrections unit near 500 South and State Road 39. Earnest D. Wireman, 41, of Knox, was arrested for escape from the program.

7/19/15 – The North Judson Police are investigating the theft of several cases of candy bars and four cases of Mountain Dew from the North Judson Little League. Anyone with any information is asked to call the police at 574-772-5914, or Crime Stoppers. A reward is being offered.

Incidents

7/14/15 – Police responded to the Smoke Shop at 1210 South Heaton St.. An off duty employee was there and advised she heard the alarm going off, noticed the entrance doors had been broken and called 911. Officers found two large stones near the doors. The incident remains under investigation.

7/19/15 – Police received reports of an individual passed out at a gas station pump at Zingo Express in Knox. Officers made contact with 28-year-old Christopher Karp who allegedly had a BAC of .14%.

7/6/15 – James Zieber, 49 – Marshall County warrant.
