Oregon-Davis students’ next summer vacation will start a little later than originally planned. The school board officially adjusted the 2020-2021 school calendar Monday, to move the last day of school from May 20 to May 26, according to Superintendent Bill Bennett.

A proposed update to the transportation handbook would eliminate all highway stops both in and out of town, according to the draft minutes from last week’s school board meeting. Another change would offer more guidance on when drivers should use the buses’ strobe lights.

The Oregon-Davis School Board has finalized the calendars for the next two school years. Superintendent Dr. Don Harman says the only major change from this year’s calendar is that parent-teacher conferences will be held in the middle of the first and third quarters, rather than at the end.

Recent weather conditions have led Oregon-Davis school officials to think about reinstating eLearning. Superintendent Dr. Don Harman says the issue was discussed during Monday’s school board meeting. “Obviously, with a lot of the weather situations that we’ve had in the last several weeks, the board has asked and I’ve had community members and parents ask if we would revisit eLearning days,” he says, “so we’re going to revisit those.”

The first day of school for Eastern Pulaski students will be a bit later the next two years. Under the 2019-2020 school calendar approved by the school board Monday, students’ first day of class will be Wednesday, August 14, while the last day will be Friday, May 29.

In the wake of last month’s fatal school bus accident, the Eastern Pulaski Community School Corporation may be retiring the number 16 as a bus number. The school board will consider a resolution tonight prohibiting the use of the number 16 on any of the corporation’s buses, out of respect for those affected by last month’s accident.
