Winamac Town Council members were alerted about an overlooked law that took effect in 2012 regarding small town primary elections and districts when they met Monday night. Town Attorney Justin Schramm explained that the law requires towns under a population of 3,500 to pass an ordinance recertifying their districts two years after a decennial census is conducted. The last census took place in 2010.
Schramm stated, “Between 2012 and 2017 there had to have been some type of ordinance or resolution recertifying the districts within the Town of Winamac.” Continue reading
Starke Election Board to Discuss Voting Machine Upgrades with County Council, Commissioners
The Starke County Election Board is ready to take its proposal for voting machine upgrades to the county council and commissioners. Vendor MicroVote wants to bring the county’s 46 machines up to the latest federal standards, in time for the 2020 presidential election. Board members decided Wednesday to discuss the upgrades with the county council and commissioners during their March 19 meetings.
Starke County Election Board Plans More Research, Before Agreeing to Voting Machine Upgrades
The Starke County Election Board is working to make sure residents’ votes are secure during future elections. Vendor MicroVote is proposing to rebuild the county’s voting machines for a total cost of about $66,000.
