Pulaski County Council Approves Coroner’s Office Fees
The Pulaski County Coroner’s Office’s new fees have been approved by the county council. Under the new arrangement, any additional copies of the coroner’s verdict, coroner’s report, and autopsy report will now cost $25 for the three-document package. A $25 disposition permit will also be charged before bodies may be released for cremation.
Coroner’s Office Fees Approved by Pulaski County Commissioners
Cremation will soon require a $25 disposition permit in Pulaski County. The county commissioners Monday adopted a pair of fee-related ordinances recommended by the Coroner’s Office. One of them creates a formal system of releasing bodies for cremation, according to Coroner John Behny. “Any time someone would be cremated, they would contact us and we would authorize, and they would send the money to the Auditor’s Office,” he explained.
Investigation into Death of Barbara McCurdy Still Ongoing
Local officials continue to investigate the death of 37-year-old Knox resident Barbara McCurdy.
A missing person report was filed for McCurdy on January 20th. She was reportedly last seen in Knox on January 14th, driving a black 2006 Chevy Cobalt. She was found deceased in her vehicle at Braun Chevrolet in Winamac on Friday, February 2nd. Continue reading

Coroner John Behny reports that the only preliminary information available at this time is that she has been positively identified and the next of kin has been notified. Explosion Victim Identified by Pulaski County Authorities
Knox City Police Department Conducting Death Investigation
The Knox City Police Department is conducting a death investigation after a 59-year-old woman was found unresponsive in the Oak Valley Apartments.
Officers were called out Thursday evening to Bertha Clabaugh’s apartment and found her to be deceased. Detectives say that no foul play is suspected at this time, but an autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon to determine the exact cause of death. They are currently interviewing witnesses and following protocol in this type of case.
Starke County Prosecutor to Review Autopsy Report in South Bend
Starke County Prosecutor, Nicholas Bourff said that he and Deputy Prosecutor Mary Ryan and two detectives will be headed to South Bend to gain information into the death of a Knox toddler that happened June 19th
“We’re meeting with the pathologist who did the forensic autopsy,” said Bourff. “It has taken him longer to do the autopsy than we originally anticipated because he’s done more work than we originally knew he would be doing.”
