Culver School Board Approves Recreation Easement Agreement for Cavalier Sports Park

The development of Culver’s Cavalier Sports Park cleared another procedural hurdle Monday. The Culver School Board approved a recreation easement agreement. “That is the park that is being developed out here through the Stellar Designation for the Town of Culver and Union Township,” School Superintendent Karen Shuman explained. “Both of them have put money toward developing that park. They just need our easement agreement to make those improvements.”

Culver School Board Approves Use of Bond Money to Remodel Entrance, Restrooms at Middle/High School

Upgrades to Culver Community Middle/High School will soon be able to move ahead. The school board voted Monday to use bond money to move the main entrance and office to where the school’s library currently is. Board member Mark Maes commented that the new arrangement would be a big upgrade, both for safety and aesthetics. Some of the bond money will also be used to remodel the restrooms across from the high school gym.

Culver School Board to Consider Agreements for Help with Possible Referendum

The Culver School Board will continue preparing for a possible operational referendum tonight. Agreements with accounting firm Umbaugh and Associates and law firm Ice Miller to help with the referendum process will be up for approval. An operational referendum is designed to help a school corporation supplement its General Fund, which pays for things like teacher salaries.

Culver School Board Continues Discussion Over Potential Operating Referendum

Culver School Board members met last Monday in order to further discuss a potential operating referendum.

Superintendent Karen Shuman stated that this month’s work session was essentially a review of what was covered during a work session in April. Superintendent Shuman said the board members in attendance had the opportunity to ask some questions about the information that has been provided so far and suggest some other areas to research. Culver Students Help Build Houses for Families in Mexico

A group of Culver students recently went to Mexico to help improve the living conditions of local families. The Culver School Board heard a presentation Monday from Culver Community High School students Cody Rieckhoff and RT Roberts. They, along with Marcella Cooper, joined a group of about 40 students from Culver Academies on a spring break mission trip.

Culver Community School Board Awards Bus Bids to IC Collins

According to Culver Superintendent Karen Shuman, school board members awarded bus bids during their meeting Monday night.

Shuman explained that the school corporation was looking to sell three buses as a part of their bus replacement plan. They had two 66 passenger buses that were included in one bid and then another bus that holds 54 passengers that was bid out on its own. Continue reading

Public Perception of Safety Discussed During Culver School Board Meeting

School safety was a topic discussed at this week’s Culver School Board meeting.

Superintendent Karen Shuman said that the school recently sent out a survey to teachers, students and parents. Though the survey included a variety of questions, Superintendent Shuman focused on the question that gauged the community’s perception of safety at Culver Community Schools during Monday’s meeting. Culver Community Schools to Implement E-Learning Days in 2018-2019 School Year

Culver Community School students will be participating in e-Learning in next school year.

Superintendent Karen Shuman said that when school board members met on Monday, they approved the calendar for the 2018-2019 school year.

Shuman explained that the calendar has three E-Learning days built in, to allow students and teachers to get familiarized with the system. Continue reading
