Culver Library to Delay Marking Accessible Parking
Officials with the Culver-Union Township Public Library asked the Culver Town Council members to delay marking spaces for accessible parking as required by the American Disability Act. Town Manager Jonathan Leist presented the information where he explained the library board is waiting for the final design for the courtyard before designating areas for accessible parking.
Culver-Union Township Public Library to Work on Building Improvements
The Culver-Union Township Public Library will soon be getting some American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant renovations to the exterior of the building along with other improvements.
Library Board member Bill Clevenger explained to the Culver Town Council Tuesday night that the board recently hired an architect to do an envelope study of the library. That study entails an analysis of potential facility modifications to bring codes up to standards or to improve operations.

The staff at the Culver-Union Township Public Library invites you to the facility this month to join them in recognizing women who have provided inspiration and leadership as part of Women’s History Month.
Patrons may stop by the youth room to decorate a thank you postcard for a woman who has made a difference in one’s life. Personal, historical and inspirational quotes are welcome. They may be colored, sketched, embellished with photos, or uniquely crafted to represent the honoree. Completed postcards will be on display throughout the month.

Culver-Union Township Public Library Dedicates StoryWalk
Families are encouraged to take a stroll through the Culver Town Park and enjoy a story. Officials with the Culver-Union Township Public Library cut the ribbon on the StoryWalk along Lake Maxinkuckee on Saturday. The idea originated in Vermont. Culver-Union Township Public Library Youth Services Director Jill Gavlick says the library board and staff was looking for a special way to celebrate the centennial and came across the idea by doing a Google search. Culver Union Township Public Library Celebrates 100th Birthday
The community of Culver is celebrating the 100th birthday of its Carnegie Library with the ribbon cutting of an exhibit designed to keep future generations excited about reading. The town’s StoryWalk consists of 18 stations along Lake Maxinkuckee in the community park. Each houses a different laminated page from a children’s storybook to encourage families to stroll through the park share a story. The Culver-Union Township Public Library and Culver Park Board teamed up on the project. The first book is “The Ice Cream Hotel” by local author Jack Johnston. StoryWalk books in the Park will change every two weeks from June through September. Continue reading
Marshall County Community Foundation Distributes $66,210 in Grant Funds
Over $66,200 in grant funds were awarded to 10 organizations in Marshall County Thursday afternoon.
The Marshall County Community Foundation held its second round of 2014 Community Fund grants where non-profit organizations submitted proposals for specific projects. Linda Yoder, Executive Director of the Marshall County Community Foundation explained that the Community Fund is one of the most flexible and responsive of the Foundation’s 318 funds.
Kick Off Summer Reading With an Ice Cream Party
The Culver-Union Township Public Library is getting the summer started with an ice cream party. The Monday afternoon event marks the start of their summer reading program for children, teens and adults. The hourlong event starts at 2 p.m. EDT Monday afternoon in the library’s large meeting room. Local author Jack Johnson will read from his children’s book “The Ice Cream Hotel” and sign copies. Registration is open to library patrons of all ages. The free summer reading program continues through Thursday, July 31.
