Continue readingThe idea of allowing alcoholic beverages in the Culver Beach Lodge during private events drew a mixed reaction during a public input session held by the town council Tuesday. Such a move might make it easier to hold weddings at the new Damore Amphitheater, followed by a reception in the Beach Lodge. The town is looking at putting policies in place that would allow people to rent the amphitheater, including potential fees and guidelines.
Police Chief Wayne Bean said he didn’t think that allowing alcohol would be a good idea in the long-term. He was skeptical that beverages would always stay inside the building. He also said that he’d been to almost all current wrestling shows taking place and that beverages never really were a good thing. He was also worried that it may lead to individuals bringing their own drinks to the park outside of permitted events. Another resident felt that allowing alcohol would be bad for the town’s image and questioned whether the decision would sacrifice the town’s park facilities for the chance at bringing in more money through facility rentals.

Culver Park Superintendent Amber Cowell presented a rough draft of a revised facility rental fee guide to the Culver Town Council members last week to include the newly built Damore Amphitheater in the Culver-Union Township Park.

The lowest bid was from Easterday Construction in the amount of $131,450. Town Attorney Jim Clevenger will review the construction contract before Council President Ginny Bess Munroe signs the document.
The Culver Town Council will consider awarding a bid for the proposed Damore Amphitheater when they meet tonight. The council members opened four bids for the amphitheater during their last meeting where the lowest base bid was $131,450 and the highest base bid was $189,355.

Four bids were received with the lowest bid coming in with a base bid of $131,450. The separation between the lowest bid and the next lowest bid was merely $25. The highest base bid was $189,355.
The Culver Town Council will meet tonight where council members are expected to open bids for the Damore Amphitheater. Amphitheater plans call for a covered stage and four rows of tiered grass seating with concrete retaining walls to be constructed in the Culver Town Park. Additional open seating areas would be available around the stage and under trees. The project was the recipient of a crowdfunding grant as well as grant funds from the Marshall County Community Foundation and state grant funding.
The Town of Culver reached “stellar” status late last year with the Stellar Community Designation Program designation and with that comes several large projects to increase tourism and overall appeal to the lake town.
There is a four-year timeline in which to complete the projects outlined in the Culver’s strategic investment plan.
