Firefighters with the Bass Lake-California Township Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 10,000 E. block of 900 South just after midnight on Tuesday.
Fire at Former Hacker Shack Building under Investigation
The Bass Lake Fire Department was called to a fire Monday night where the debris of the old Hacker Shack building on the Bass Lake Golf Course was located.
Fire Chief Les Jensen told WKVI News said that the building was previously demolished. The remaining rubble was on fire when they got there. The firefighters arrived at the scene on 500 S. shortly after they were notified which was around 5:30 p.m.
Jensen said the sheriff’s department was notified of the incident and it remains under investigation.
Knox City Council Tables Mutual Aid Agreement
The Knox City Council tabled a discussion on a mutual aid agreement between the city and the Bass Lake Fire Department.
Knox-Center Township Fire Chief Kenny Pfost told the council members that he doesn’t approve of the agreement presented and will talk with Bass Lake Fire Chief Les Jensen about an agreement that would be acceptable between both parties.
Chief Pfost stated that the departments are operating under a mutual aid agreement provided by the state, but he would like to see it tailored to fit the needs of both departments.
One Found Dead in House Fire
One person was found dead at a fire scene at 2795 E. State Road 10 in Knox on Monday night.
The Bass Lake Fire Department was called to the scene at 11:05 p.m. CT and firefighters were on the scene for approximately eight hours. Members of the North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Fire Destroys Bass Lake Home
The Bass Lake Fire Department was called to a house fire at 6560 S. State Road 10 at Bass Lake. Fire Chief, Les Jensen, told WKVI that the two-story brick home was a total loss. The Fire Department battled the blaze for about 45 minutes before it came under control. Jensen said the home was a summer home owned by an Illinois resident. The preliminary cause of the fire is a lightning strike. The home was valued at at least $500,000. Continue reading
