The Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce is giving out not one, but two, H.J. Halleck Community Service Awards. Pulaski residents Paul and Brenda Gilsinger have been named the 2021 Halleck Award recipients, according to a chamber press release. But since no award was given last year, the chamber has also named Betty Kruger of Francesville as the 2020 recipient.

Nomination Deadline for H.J. Halleck Award Approaching
Members of the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce are currently accepting nominations for the H.J. Halleck Community Service Award.
A Pulaski County resident is recognized each year for his or her outstanding community spirit. The award winner is honored for his or her time spent on improving the life in Pulaski County through a variety of projects. Those who are nominated have willingly given time and energy without the gratitude and recognition they deserve.
Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Announces Halleck Award Winner
A longtime Winamac businessman who is well-known for his generosity has been announced as the recipient of the 2013 Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce H.J. Halleck Award. Former chamber of commerce president David W. Barr owned and operated Winamac Cleaners and Laundry for many years. The business was Winamac’s first laundromat. While at the Chamber, Barr oversaw the groundbreaking for Control Company’s local plant, worked to recruit additional businesses and helped with Santa’s annual arrival and the sidewalk day sales for Winamac businesses. Barr also reactivated the city hostess program and helped to pay off the note on the swimming pool.

Halleck Community Service Award is given each year to a person who donates time, energy, and hard work to making their community better. Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Named H.J. Halleck Award Winner
Last week we announced that Michael Shurn, the Circuit Court Judge in Pulaski County, was named the H.J. Halleck Award winner for 2011.
One of Judge Shurn’s special interests has been scouting. We asked him if he has always been interested in youth activities.
“Not really, I was involved in youth activities, I guess, from just following my children around and then when I became Judge, I have so many juvenile cases that it was sort of a natural fit to continue on in scouts. My son went all the way through so I just stayed there.”
2011 H.J. Halleck Award Winner Named
Congratulations to Pulaski County Circuit Judge Michael Shurn of Winamac. In balloting yesterday, Judge Shurn was selected as the 2011 H.J. Halleck award winner in Pulaski County.
Judge Shurn lives in Pulaski County with his wife, Mary, and is the father of two children. He will be honored during a ceremony February 24th at the Moss Creek Country Club.
