The Hamlet Town Council members learned last week that Davis Township is teaming up with the town for this year’s Hamlet town-wide yard sale. The sale days are May 4 and May 5.
Residents Discuss Loose Dogs with Hamlet Town Council
A few residents attended the Hamlet Town Council meeting this week to complain about the number of loose dogs in town.
The complaints are an extension from a February meeting where two residents reported their concerns about dogs that appear to be vicious. They don’t feel safe around their homes with the dogs hanging around the neighborhoods.

Oregon-Davis Superintendent Discusses Upcoming Referendum with Hamlet Town Council
Oregon-Davis School Superintendent Dr. Don Harman went to the Hamlet Town Council Wednesday to spread the word about the upcoming school referendum. If approved, the measure would add a property tax of up to 29 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for an eight-year period. It would replace a 19-cent tax that’s set to expire in 2019.
Hamlet Council Updated on Starke Street Improvement Plans
Hamlet’s plans to rebuild a portion of Starke Street this month are largely dependent on the weather. Plans call for the road to be rebuilt from Plymouth Street north to U.S. 30, with drainage improvements and a new sidewalk along the west side of the road. Continue reading

Hamlet Council Makes Funding Arrangements for Water Main Repair, Insurance Questions Remain
Whether or not Hamlet’s insurance will cover the cost of fixing a recent water main break was discussed during Wednesday’s town council meeting. The town has ended up with nearly $28,000 in repair bills from January’s water main break. It happened when Shoulder Bolts and a valve failed, according to Water and Street Superintendent Fred Rowe.
New Garbage Contractor Takes Over in Hamlet
The Town of Hamlet is ready for its new trash pickup provider. Local Affordable Disposal has completed the delivery of residents’ new garbage totes, and the company’s first garbage pickup day is Tuesday. “The transition has been very smooth,” Town Council President Dave Kesvormas reported Wednesday, “and we encourage any residents that have any issues to let us know immediately.” Town officials also reminded residents that large items will be collected the first Tuesday of each month.
Hamlet Budget Approved with Only One Cut
The Town of Hamlet’s 2018 budget has finally been approved by the Department of Local Government Finance. Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts told the town council last week that the town got most of what it requested. “The only one that they cut us was Park, which was by $1,045,” she explained.
