More Than 25 People Arrested in Multi-Agency Enforcement on Tippecanoe River

Nearly thirty individuals were taken into the custody after concerns from Pulaski County residents prompted a multi-officer patrol on the Tippecanoe River on Saturday.

Authorities report that Indiana DNR Conservation Officers conducted a patrol on the river on August 31st in response to citizen complaints that included excessive littering and other suspected criminal activity. Some of those issues were addressed during a previous Winamac Town Council meeting.

Two Arrested During Crackdown on Snowmobile Violations in Southern LaPorte County

 

A crackdown on snowmobile violations in southern LaPorte County led to two arrests Friday night. Indiana Conservation Officers, LaPorte County Police, and Westville Police saturated the area of U.S. 421 and County Road 375 South, after a group of snowmobile riders allegedly went there after fleeing from Conservation Officers around 10:30 p.m.

Snowmobile Crash Sends LaPorte County Man to Hospital

A LaPorte County man was seriously injured in a snowmobile crash early Monday morning. Indiana Conservation Officers say it happened around midnight in a field near Hanna. Investigators believe Charles Zbuka, 38, was riding across the field at about 40 miles per hour, when he crashed into a large ditch.

Indiana Conservation Officers Seek Public Assistance in Retrieving Stolen Snowmobiles, Offer $1,000 Reward

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources just a press release today, seeking public assistance in finding two stolen Law Enforcement Snowmobiles that were taken from Potato Creek State Park near the town of North Liberty.

The snowmobiles were stolen on or around December 15, 2017. Indiana Conservation Officers are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and/or the recovery of the snowmobiles. Continue reading

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a weekend drowning at Hudson Lake in LaPorte County. Emergency responders received reports shortly after 7:00 Sunday morning that someone had fallen out of a boat near the 8100 block of East Lakeshore Drive, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department. DNR Officials Looking for Poacher in Marshall County

DNR law enforcementIndiana Conservation Officers are looking for a poacher in the Marshall County area.

An investigation is ongoing into the shooting of a fawn deer that happened in the 15000 block of Fir Road, just north of 15B Road on Saturday, Aug. 9. A passing motorist reportedly saw a man exit his small, yellow compact car and shoot into an adjacent field. According to the press release, the gun was believed to be a shotgun.

Divers Recover Body from Lake Maxinkuckee

 
 

Indiana Conservation Officers and the Marshall County Coroner are investigating the death of a 28-year-old man whose body was recovered by divers in Culver’s Lake Maxinkuckee Friday night.

The man, Jose Cruz Lizcano-Fernandez, of Logansport, was last seen swimming at the Culver Public Beach and was reported missing four to five hours later, according to a news release from the DNR.  Divers from the Indiana Conservation Office assisted in the search while using “side scan sonar” to locate him.  His body was recovered within 30 minutes of the initial call and was located approximately 15 feet outside of the swim area at Culver Public Beach in about five feet of water.

Body of Knox High School Graduate Found

Late last night, a boater and a member of the United States Coast Guard located 29-year-old Ron Wood, Jr.’s body approximately one mile off the shore of Lake Michigan near the far west border of Central Beach in Porter County, according to Indiana Conservation Officers. Continue reading

Man Died of Accidental Drowning

 
 

The body of a man was found in the Yellow River Thursday evening.

An autopsy to find the cause of death was conducted Friday. The preliminary cause of death is accidental drowning.

Kayakers notified the Plymouth Police Department on Thursday evening that they found a body in the Yellow River by Oakhill Avenue in Plymouth. The deceased man was recovered by the effort of officers from the Plymouth Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana Conservation officers, Plymouth Fire Department, and the Marshall County Coroner.

Crews are searching for Ron Wood, Jr.

Indiana Conservation officers are continuing in their search for 29-year-old Ron Wood, Jr.

Wood, a Knox High School graduate, went missing after jumping into Lake Michigan Saturday night to attempt to rescue struggling swimmers who drifted from their boat a mile off shore. All swimmers were rescued by the US Coast Guard and nearby boaters except for Wood who remains missing.

A 29-year-old Knox High School graduate is missing in the waters of Lake Michigan.

Ron Wood, Jr. of Chicago and several others were in a boat drifting off shore north of Mount Baldy on Saturday night. Two members of the group jumped into the lake and became separated from the boat. A few passengers jumped into the water to retrieve the swimmers. The remaining passenger in the boat could not start the boat’s engine and called 911.
