Crowdfunding Campaign Begins for Starke County Veteran’s War Memorial

A crowdfunding campaign led by the Starke County Park Board and the Northern Indiana Community Foundation, sponsored by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), begins today to help gather funds toward the new Starke County Veteran’s War Memorial.  The memorial will be placed on the southeast corner of the Starke County Courthouse Square at Washington and Pearl Streets in Knox.

Pulaski County Council Approves Budget Transfer for Unexpected Blight Elimination Project Costs

The demolition of a Medaryville home as part of a blight elimination project continues to create headaches for Pulaski County Building Inspector Doug Hoover, a year after the house was torn down. “Everything was done, completed,” he told the county council Monday. “[Building Department Assistant] Karla [Kreamer] and I did everything we were supposed to do. About a week before the last date, the state comes in and says they wanted it cleaned up. It wasn’t to their specs. Six months I waited. They could have told me six months ago. Now I had to jump through hoops.”

Knox City Council Authorizes Housing Rehabilitation Grant Application to be Submitted

A resolution authorizing a grant to be submitted to the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority was approved by Knox City Council members Tuesday night.

Mayor Dennis Estok explained that officials will be applying for an owner-occupied housing rehabilitation grant that is geared toward helping low and moderate income individuals as well as those with disabilities.

Mayor Estok indicated that the funding would help offset the cost of various rehabilitation projects including those that have to do with electricity, plumbing or roof work. Continue reading

Lieutenant Governor Discusses Next Level Veterans Initiative with Culver Officials

Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch meets with Culver officials and Stellar project partners before touring projects

Indiana is looking to the military to help boost its workforce. Earlier this year, the state launched its Next Level Veterans initiative to try to entice those leaving the military to move to Indiana. Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch discussed the program during her visit to Culver last week.
