Knox School Board Tours New Elementary Cafeteria
The newly completed Knox Elementary School cafeteria and cooking kitchen were a focus of last night’s meeting of the School Board. The board meeting was held in the cafeteria itself. Tours of the cooking kitchen were given by Superintendent A.J. Gappa. He reported the elementary building project is near completion. The new lunch facility has a seating capacity of about 150 students. The school’s enrollment of 450 eat there daily in three shifts. Continue reading
Knox School Board Discusses Bus Options
A 78-passenger school bus and two minivans were approved for purchase last night by the Knox School Board. A study on the advisability of leasing the vehicles is still incomplete. The purchase will not be made until the review is complete and ultimately recommends purchase over lease. Continue reading
Knox School Board Approves Teacher Contract
The Knox Federation of Teachers (KFT) and the Knox Community Schools have ratified a document that provides for a “status quo” agreement for the current year. Knox High School Hosts Career Fair
Hoping to develop successful careers as adults, students from Knox High school and some from the 8th grade will be meeting with college representatives and counselors today at the “Fall Career Fair.” Tomorrow junior high school students will participate in a “mini college fair” during the lunch periods. Knox Officials Ready for New School Year
After a successful “open house” and “back to school night,” all three Knox school principals reported last night, at a school board meeting, that the events “went well” and they saw many smiling faces. Superintendent A. J. Gappa reported an “air of optimism” in the halls about the new balanced calendar, as did board members.
While an official count of students will be made later, Gappa said a look at early registration indicates an increased enrollment and that additional computers may have to be ordered for high school students. Continue reading
Knox Elementary Art Program Will Continue
Students in the Knox Elementary School will enjoy art classes in the 2015-16 school year, after a Tuesday clarification of Monday night’s school board vote in a reduction in force recommendation. If approved, art instruction would have been moved to the classroom. Continue reading
Knox Schools Realize Savings Through Bond Refinancing

Knox School Board Prepares for Graduation
Knox High School’s 112 senior candidates for graduation will complete their high school careers in services at the Weinberg Gymnasium, Friday, June 5 at 7 p.m. Principal Dr. Elizabeth Ratliff also reported to the Knox School Board Monday that seniors will receive their earned honors in a Friday morning program, the 22nd, at the High School gymnasium. Knox Students Vow Support for Child of Crash Victims
Students of the National Junior Honor Society have determined that the proceeds of their fund raising activities will be directed to an education fund for a North Judson student who lost both parents in a recent accident. Charles and Patricia Hill were killed last Tuesday when their 2005 Harley-Davidson was struck by a pickup truck on State Road 10 at 700 West, west of North Judson.Knox School Board Extends One-To-One Computer Contract
The Knox School Board took action Monday evening to approve a new 4-year contract for the “one-to-one” computer program for students. The computers will become the property of the corporation at the end of the contract. The lease can be shortened with early payment to the supplier. Knox School Board Adds Days to School Year
The last day of school for students for the spring semester of 2015 at Knox Schools has been moved forward by two days to June 1st. Superintendent A.J. Gappa told the school board last night that originally four days had been set aside for weather-related “make-up” days, but so far there have been six days of weather delay. Knox Community School Board Approves School Calendar
The 2015-2016 Knox Community School Corporation balanced calendar was approved by the School Board this week.
Classes will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 4. The last student day will be June 1. Commencement is scheduled for June 10.
The new calendar includes a number of extended vacation periods. The first occurs in October, fall break, from the 19th to the 23rd. A three-day Thanksgiving break is scheduled November 25-27.
Knox School Board Adopts Balanced Calendar Concept
The Knox Community School Board unanimously approved the Balanced Calendar Concept for the 2015-16 school year at its Monday night meeting. Specific calendar dates are yet undetermined, awaiting the scheduling of test dates from the State of Indiana.Knox School Board to Consider Balanced Calendar
The Knox Community School Board will consider the adoption of a balanced calendar when they meet this evening. It still features 180 instructional days. Knox School Renovation Plans Move Forward
The Knox Middle School Building Corporation Committee, at a public hearing last night, reviewed, approved, and sent to the School Board, a number of resolutions to move along the construction and renovation of a portion of the elementary building. No citizens attended the hearing.

Knox High School Students Plan Community Project
Forty Knox High School senior English students have decided to pool their dreams in a unique project using the skills learned in their classrooms, such as research, writing, construction, marketing, and computer knowledge to develop a vacant Knox downtown lot into an inviting, landscaped, park-like area.
Hoping to coordinate those dreams with the Knox City Council and the Park Board, the enterprising kids are planning a gazebo, maybe a pergola, benches, a picnic table or two, and other improvements.
Knox School Board Approves Budget, Discusses Balanced Calendar
Superintendent A.J. Gappa reported that balanced calendar discussions for the 2015-16 school year continue with other area schools, many of whom have expressed interest in a coordinated calendar. That schedule would feature four nine week sessions and
two-week breaks at Christmas and in the Spring, with the school year ending around Memorial Day. Continue reading
Knox School Board to Hold Budget Hearing Tonight
The Knox Community School Board will meet in special session tonight to discuss regular business and to hold a public hearing regarding the all funds budget.
If anyone has any comments on the published budget, the board will take them under consideration during the hearing. A budget adoption will occur in October.
The board will also consider an authorization for a project hearing and approve a teacher document of agreement.
