Fatal LaPorte County Crash Remains Under Investigation

 
 

The cause of a fatal Monday afternoon crash that shut down a LaPorte County highway for nearly two hours remains under investigation. Emergency responders were dispatched at 1:42 p.m. to U.S. 20 west of Johnson Road for a serious injury crash. They soon discovered the driver of a blue Buick passenger vehicle was deceased. Investigators believe the Buick was traveling eastbound on U.S. 20 near Pinetree Drive, suddenly crossed over the center line into the path of an oncoming Able Disposal truck and hit it head-on. Weapon at South Central H.S. Was BB Gun, According to Sheriff

 
 

Officials with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office say a recent report of a weapon on school property at South Central turned out to be a BB gun. An investigation into the May 14th incident found that a freshman student on the baseball team brought the gun to practice with the intent to take it to a friend’s house afterward. Authorities note it was never displayed and remained in its case in the press box. Continue reading

LaPorte County Officials Investigating Fatal Wanatah Hit and Run

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help to locate a driver who struck and killed a woman on U.S. 421 near Wanatah. Officers responded to a report of a woman lying in a ditch on the east side of the highway just north of U.S. 30 around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. She was dead, after apparently being hit by a vehicle. Continue reading

Fire Victim Identified As Investigation Continues

Investigators from the state fire marshal’s office and LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department are still looking into the cause of yesterday’s fatal mobile home fire. The Kingsford-Union and Kingsbury Fire Departments were initially dispatched to a medical alarm call at 9:19 a.m. at a home just outside of Kingsford Heights. Continue reading

LaPorte County Officials Warn of Dangerous Ice Conditions

Thin IceThe LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to be extra careful and perhaps avoid being on the ice on many of the county’s inland lakes. They say the mild winter combined with a late freeze have made for unusual conditions. Deputy John Burger with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office Dive/Rescue Team says they’ve found numerous places where ice is several inches thick with very thin ice only a few yards away.
