In a year when COVID-19 has disrupted much of everyday life, local volunteers have used their creativity to keep helping those in need. The Kid’s Closet Ministry provides school supplies, clothing, and other resources to about Starke County 1,200 children a year. Director Linda Lewandowski says that volunteers can no longer deliver clothes directly to homes, but they found a solution that turned out to be more efficient.

Kid’s Closet and the North Judson United Methodist Church Food Pantry cut the ribbon on their permanent home Wednesday. The church’s outreach ministries moved into the building on the west side of North Judson on State Road 10 just over two years ago. After years of raising funds and applying for grants, they were recently able to buy it outright from the Bailey family for $75,000.

The event was attended by local leaders, state representatives, former award recipients and a plethora of caring community members. It was led by Chamber of Commerce President Jerry Gurrado and Executive Director Jessica Craig.

Drop Off Hygiene Products at the SCILL Center to Help the Kid’s Closet Ministry
In addition to supplying Starke County’s youth with school supplies and clothing, the Kid’s Closet Ministry also provides hygiene kits for kids and teens.
To help the organization replenish their supplies, students and staff involved with the Starke County Initiative for Lifelong Learning (SCILL) are collecting hygiene products now throughout the month of November. Continue reading

The start of the school year is right around the corner and Linda Lewandowski from the Kid’s Closet Ministry is looking for volunteers to help get kids in need get the supplies they need prior to the start of the school year.
Starke County Council, Commissioners to Meet Tonight
The Starke County Council members will begin preparations for putting together the 2019 budget when they meet tonight. They will set a date for the 2019 budget workshop. Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler is anticipated to present his proposed 2019 revenue and budget tonight. The addition of a sergeant jailer will be presented as an amendment to the salary ordinance and the council will appoint a member to the Starke County Library Board.

NJ Town Council to Continue Discussion Over Potential Internet Upgrades
North Judson Town Council members will discuss a request submitted by Fourway Computer Products in a previous meeting when they meet tonight.
At a meeting in early June, members heard a proposal from the company about installing equipment on the town’s water tower for potential internet expansion and upgrades. Members will continue their discussion of that possibility this evening. Continue reading

Church Holds Successful Rock-a-Thon For Kid’s Closet Ministry
Members of Little Dove Baptist Church in Toto enjoyed a day of fun and fellowship for a good cause on Saturday. Participants in the church’s rock-a-thon raised $1,200 in cash for Kid’s Closet Ministry at North Judson United Methodist Church and collected several new coats, hats, scarves and pairs of gloves for children throughout Starke County.
