Koontz Lake Fire Department Rescue Vehicle Involved in Crash While Responding to Fatal Accident

 

Thursday’s fatal crash in Marshall County led to a second accident involving a Koontz Lake Fire Department rescue vehicle. The initial crash happened in the area of U.S. 6 and Quince Road just before 1:00 p.m., when Marshall County Police say a Chevy flatbed truck tried to pass a Buick Century that was about to turn left. The driver of the Buick, Judith Masterson, 69, of Plymouth, eventually died from her injuries.

Initial Hearing Held in Starke Circuit Court for Plymouth Teen Facing Multiple Felony Charges

A Plymouth man accused of rape, sexual misconduct with a minor, and child exploitation appeared in Starke Circuit Court Friday.

Court documents say that Thomas D. Holloway, who was 18 at the time, apparently took a group of juveniles to a residence in Starke County near Culver, on or around July 3, 2017.

There, he allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old while she was “unaware that the sexual intercourse was occurring”, according to criminal information provided by Starke County Circuit Court. The minor was reportedly intoxicated at the time. Holloway is also accused of taking a picture and videos of the victim during the alleged incident. Continue reading

Medaryville Woman Arrested after Accident

A Medaryville woman was arrested on Tuesday night after reportedly swerving to miss a deer and going off the road while she was driving under the influence.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, 24-year-old Alexandria Burns and passenger Melvin R. Taylor, of Medaryville, were on State Road 106 and Plymouth-Goshen Trail in Marshall County when a deer ran out in the roadway. Burns swerved to miss the deer and her vehicle ran off the highway and rolled over, as accounted in the report.

Police say a Taylor suffered a broken collar bone in the accident.

Burns was arrested and booked into the Marshall County Jail on a preliminary felony charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.

Driver Dies from Injuries in Accident in Marshall County

The driver involved in a Friday night accident on U.S. 31 and 13th Road in Marshall County that claimed the life of a Plymouth man has died from injuries sustained in that accident.

According to an update released by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, 23-year-old Austin Webb of Knox passed away on Saturday after being transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend following the two-car accident.

Plymouth Man Loses Life in Car Accident

A Plymouth man died as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 31 and 13th Road in Marshall County Friday night.

According to police, 26-year-old Ricky L. Bradley of Plymouth was a passenger in a car driven by 23-year-old Austin Webb of Knox when the Pontiac Grand Am they were traveling in entered the intersection. Webb reportedly failed to yield to the right-of-way of a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 32-year-old Terry Burgess of Elkhart. Police say Burgess’ vehicle hit the passenger side of Webb’s vehicle causing extensive damage.

Two Arrested after Traffic Stop

Two Knox residents were arrested overnight Friday after a traffic stop in the area of Rose Road and Lincoln Highway in Marshall County.

Marshall County Police say a K9 searched the 2006 Kia passenger vehicle and indicated the presence of narcotics. Officers reportedly found two used syringes under the passenger seat, plus 3.5 grams of heroin hidden underneath the floor carpeting on the driver’s side. Other items of drug paraphernalia were also allegedly collected.

Child, Dog Owner Bitten in Dog Attack

A Knox boy was injured Thursday evening after being attacked by a dog at the Jellystone Campground in Plymouth.

After an investigation, Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies say the boy went to a neighbor’s lot when the dog bit him. The 10-year-old was transported to the hospital for the injuries he sustained in the incident. The owner of dog was also bitten when he attempted to assist in the attack, according to police. The owner refused medical assistance.

Click it or TicketA local law enforcement agency is taking part in a national and statewide driver safety initiative. The next Click It or Ticket enforcement effort kicks off Friday and continues through May 31. Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department will join more than 250 state and local law enforcement agencies on the lookout around the clock for drivers and passengers who aren’t wearing seat belts.
