North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Chief Urges Residents to Help Prevent Brush Fires

Local firefighters are urging residents to do their part to prevent brush fires. “We’re starting to get into that fall weather, brush fire awareness,” North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Chief Joe Leszek told the town council Monday. “If it’s windy, it’s really dry, don’t burn. Use common sense. Keep your fires maintained. So hopefully, that’ll cut down on some of our brush fires this year.”

North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Chief Addresses Weekend Fire Truck Accident

North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Chief Joe Leszek is expressing relief that Sunday’s fire truck accident wasn’t much worse. A tanker truck was responding to a house fire near County Roads 500 South and 650 West, when Leszek says a combination of ice and traffic conditions caused it to slip off the roadway and roll over at about 15 miles per hour.

North Judson Providing Fire Truck to SCILL Fire & Rescue Program

The SCILL Center’s new Fire & Rescue Program has gotten a boost, thanks to the Town of North Judson. Back in September, the town council agreed to let the program use a 1979 Ford fire truck that the North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Department has been unable to sell, as long as the SCILL Center would maintain it. On Monday, Fire Chief Joe Leszek told the town council Monday that the paperwork was being finalized, and the fire department planned to hand the truck over to the SCILL Center this week.
