Two Day Closure of U.S. 6 Near Bremen
Marshall County motorists should practice caution when traveling on U.S. 6 in the coming days. Beginning Monday, July 21 through the end of the day on Tuesday, July 22 crews will perform chip and fog seal operations to preserve the road surface between the east junction and west junction of State Road 106 near Bremen. Drivers wishing to travel either eastbound or westbound on U.S. 6 should take State Road 106 until it meets back with U.S. 6.

Plymouth School Registration Information Released
Plymouth Community School officials have announced the registration schedule for the 2014-2015 school year.
All schools will register at Plymouth High School on July 30 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., from noon to 3 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On July 31, registration is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET. School officials recommend that you park in the north lot and enter through door 5.
Local Music Group Receives Grant
If you hear music in the air, it could be coming from the Choralaires. The Starke County Choralaires are a chorus group that is a part of Melody Makers of Indiana. The Melody Makers of Indiana is the only chorus of it’s kind in the United States.

Operation Quiet Comfort Quilt to be Presented Today
Representatives of the Operation Quiet Comfort organization in Marshall County are headed to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where a Four Freedoms Gratitude Quilt will be presented to officials.
Peggy Reynolds said a block from all of the 50 states are represented. A message from all of the Operation Quiet Comfort organizations around the United States are on a denim block. Those blocks were sewn and quilted by a woman from Marshall County.
Marshall County Council Approves New Employee Descriptions at Highway Department
Marshall County Detectives Investigating Thefts
Detectives with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department are looking for information into two recent theft incidents.
It was between June 30 and July 9 when unknown person(s) gained entry into a NIPSCO substation at 18881 15th Road and took a large amount of copper wire and connectors. Three storage units were also damaged and it believed the same person caused the destruction.
Progress Made on Marshall County Shell Building
The exterior of the new shell building at 2910 Commerce Street in Plymouth is moving along.
Three massive concrete panels have been installed and construction cranes remain on the scene and can be spotted from U.S. 30, according to officials from the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC). This is just the beginning of the construction of the 45,000 square foot building that will house a business or industry once it is completed by October.
Additional Appropriations Pondered by Marshall County Council
The Marshall County Council members discussed additional appropriations for the highway department and the health department Monday morning.
The highway department requested $55,000 for road paint. Interim Superintendent Jason Peters explained that the paint should last the rest of the season and it was purchased at a cheaper rate than last year. The crews are set to stripe a lot of the main roads this year with this paint.

Citizens who require wheelchair access to their homes can now get a ramp by calling Joan Haugh at the Starke County Community Services office.
Major Projects Moving Along in Marshall County
The Marshall County Commissioners received an update on two major construction projects in the county from USI’s Bart Trester. Trester is the project manager of the 7th Road and the Metronet projects.
Trester explained that unsuitable soils are being removed from portions of the 7th Road project. The soils were found in different locations in the project and weren’t detected in soil borings conducted prior to the project. The removal of the soils was quite costly. The commissioners approved a change order of over $500,000 at a previous meeting to meet that requirement. Crews are borrowing suitable soils between Lilac Road and Seltenright Ditch.

Ferguson, Donohue Surrender at Marshall County Jail
The former president and chief financial officer of the now closed business, Stone Creek Homes, Inc. of Plymouth, surrendered themselves to the Marshall County Jail Monday night.
Marshall County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Nelson Chipman told WKVI News that David A. Ferguson and Alan G. Donohue surrendered to the Marshall County Sheriff at 5 p.m. ET on Monday and bonded out of the jail a little while later. The pair each had a cash bond of $15,000.
Warrants for their arrest were issued recently. In January, a grand jury heard evidence against Ferguson and Donohue gathered by investigators from the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office and the Indiana State Police. The indictments were handed down on Feb. 20 of this year.
Court documents released on July 1 by Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney David R. Holmes allege Ferguson stole from employees and committed other racketeering violations between Feb. 13 and June 1, 2012.
Fourteen charges were filed against Ferguson including theft, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to receive stolen property, and corrupt business influence. Donohue faces 11 charges including aiding in the commission of theft, conspiracy to commit receiving stolen property, theft and corrupt business influence.
Ferguson and Donahue appeared in Marshall County Superior Court No. 1 Tuesday morning for an initial hearing where not guilty pleas were entered by the judge for both defendants. Trial dates were subsequently scheduled.
Marshall County Crews Still Cleaning up after Last Week’s Storms
Crews continue to clean up after last week’s storms.
Marshall County Interim Highway Superintendent Jason Peters told the commissioners Monday morning that the highway department is continuing to remove debris from the area. One issue that he’s having is the theft of “road closed” signs. He learned of the thefts when the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department called him to ask to close a road so work could be done. Marshall County Commissioners to Meet Today
The Marshall County Commissioners will meet in regular session this morning with several items on the agenda.
Bart Trester from USI will give the commissioners an update on two county projects. The 7th Road project recently had a hiccup when unstable, organic soil was found. It had to be dug up and removed from the area.
Two Tornadoes Touched Down in Marshall County Tuesday Morning
The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in Marshall County just after midnight on Tuesday in a line of storms that caused severe damage and widespread power outages.
Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery said the pair of tornadoes touched down in the Plymouth area.
