The Pulaski County Council wants more information before approving a new pay structure for instructors in the EMS training program. EMS Director Brandon DeLorenzo is proposing a system where the instructors split a portion of a class’s income, rather than getting paid their hourly overtime rate.

More stop signs are coming to the intersection of Pulaski County Roads 400 North and 1400 West, in spite of some county officials’ concerns about their necessity. The county council and commissioners passed an ordinance Monday officially making the intersection a four-way stop. While the commissioners approved it unanimously, council members Mike Tiede and Ken Boswell voted against it.

Purdue Extension will continue to serve Pulaski County, at least for another year. The county commissioners approved the Extension Contractual Services Agreement last week. The county agrees to pay Purdue almost $62,000. County Attorney Kevin Tankersley said the agreement is the same as it’s been every year.

The Medaryville-White Post Township Fire Department wants to get a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant to build a new fire station north of the town hall. Since the fire department can’t actually apply for the grant, the application is going through the Pulaski County.

The gravel access lane runs from County Road 400 South to the Swayze Camp subdivision along the Tippecanoe River south of Winamac. However, it apparently drifted out of its easement and onto a neighboring property, leading the landowner to close it off entirely.

TM Construction of Winamac was the apparent low bidder at just under $77,000. The highest bid was almost three times that, with J. Shoffner General Contractor of LaPorte submitting a bid for more than $221,000. Garner Construction of Hanna offered to do the work for less than $102,000.
