The future of the Pulaski County Courthouse will be discussed during a special joint county council and commissioners meeting tonight. The Pulaski County Council is asking the sheriff to look for money in his budget to help cover the cost of his deputies’ new retirement plan. Last year, the council approved a switch from a 20- to a 32-year retirement plan. That was expected to increase the county’s cost by about $28,000 a year.

Sheriff Jeff Richwine brought the idea to the county council earlier this month. “You know, we’ve got the new body cameras going and now, we’ve got our first requests for video, and I think we’re allowed, by law, to charge a fee for those videos,” Richwine said. “And I didn’t know if that was set or if the council sets that fee. I’m sure I just can’t say, as the sheriff, I want to charge $100.”

Continue readingThe Pulaski County Commissioners will consider bids for a number of different items this morning. They’re expected to choose a bank to handle the county’s cash management services. The county received bids from four local banks last month.
Maintenance Director Mia Salyers will discuss contracts for lawn care and snow removal at various county properties, along with bids for the removal of an ash tree near the Annex Building. Fuel bids will also be discussed, and the commissioners are expected to finalize a contract with Golden Tech for a new email system.
Additionally, the possibility of the county once again helping with the cost of a new van for Pulaski County Human Services will be discussed by the organization’s executive director, Jacki Frain. Meanwhile, a $25,000 expense with a Chicago media outlet will be presented for the commissioners’ approval by Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer. The CDC has tried a few different advertising packages in recent years, in an effort to attract tourists to Pulaski County.
Highway Superintendent Terry Ruff, Sheriff Jeff Richwine, and Assessor Holly VanDerAa are also scheduled to make appearances at this morning’s Pulaski County Commissioners meeting. It starts at 8:30 a.m. EDT at the Pulaski County Courthouse.
The Pulaski County Council has referred a series of salary-related requests to its salary matrix committee. Prosecutor Dan Murphy has been asking for a pay raise for the victim’s assistance coordinator, to bring the position in line with the conditions of the grant that funds it. He initially suggested removing the position from the county’s salary matrix entirely, but last week, he told council members that it might be better to create a new position in the salary matrix to reflect the new responsibilities.
