Pulaski County has a problem with plastic.
The County’s Recycling and Transfer Station typically accepts plastic for recycling, the idea being that they eventually sell the plastic to vendors which use the bales as an alternative to newly produced plastic in their products.

A downtown Winamac building is ready for demolition.
During Monday night’s Pulaski County Commissioners meeting, Winamac Town Manager Brad Zellers appeared before the board to discuss a collaborative effort to tear down the structure, otherwise known as the Long Branch property.

AAA is predicting a recording breaking year for holiday travelers.
The group is expecting nearly one in three Americans will make a trip of 50 miles or more this year. It represents a 1.4-percent increase over the same period one year ago. AAA says the number of travelers has increased each year over the last seven years.
NIPSCO has developed a new way to report a power outage.
The utility service provider says that electric customers are now able to text the word “Out” to 444111. That will notify the company of a power outage at their place of residence. Businesses may also participate in the new service.
A few changes may be seen with the way officials with the Pulaski County government are insured.
The state of Indiana requires that public officials carry bond amounts as a form of financial protection to the employees as well as local governments. Changes that are anticipated to go into effect on January 1st, however, have prompted some alternations in the bonding policies offered.

A change in Clerk is bringing with it an abridged decision on wages paid in Pulaski County
Christi Hoffa was selected as the new Clerk of Pulaski County during a caucus earlier this year. She will replace sitting Clerk Tasha Foerg. As part of the transition – which will take place on January 1st – Hoffa intends to handpick her own 1st Deputy Clerk.

The Winamac Town Council Monday approved the salary ordinances for the years 2016 through 2018 for town employees, elected officials, and police department employees. They also decided to amend the work schedules for employees and elected officials, to give them the day after Thanksgiving off as a paid holiday instead of employees’ birthdays. Continue reading
Pulaski County is reviewing financial options for a proposed courthouse renovation.
During a joint session of the Pulaski County Council and Commissioners, a presentation was given for the possible issuance of bonds for upgrades and repairs to the courthouse. The County is currently analyzing the courthouse building before bidding architectural work for the upgrades.

Pulaski County residents will soon be able to get a prescription discount card through the National Association of Counties. The county has agreed to take part in the association’s Prescription Discount Card program operated by CVS Caremark. Continue reading
The Winamac Town Council will get some more information this afternoon about a proposal to allow residents to raise chickens within the town. Currently, farm animals are prohibited within the town of Winamac, but over the past couple of months, some residents have been asking for an exception to be made for poultry. Continue reading
