The West Central School Board members discussed revisions made to a few board policies, according to Superintendent Don Street.
West Central Sees Increase in Kindergarten Numbers
West Central Elementary School Principal Dan Zylstra gave an update on Kindergarten Round-up figures when the school board met last week. Superintendent Don Street said it appears more students will be attending school in that grade than last year.

The secure entrance and utilization of space projects were discussed by the West Central School Board last week.
West Central School Corporation on Track for School Safety
The West Central School Corporation has school safety at the forefront of daily operations especially with school shooting incidents making national news.
Superintendent Don Street said the corporation is planning staff training for an active shooter incident, identification reporting, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training, and bullying prevention.
West Central to Utilize eLearning Days if Weather Closes School
West Central students will be utilizing eLearning days if the weather forces the cancellation of any more classroom instruction this school year.
Superintendent Don Street reminded the school board of that policy last week.
West Central Projects to Begin Soon
Work will begin soon on part of the secure entrance and utilization project at the West Central School Corporation. Superintendent Don Street anticipates that the bond closing will occur this month and pre-construction meetings will begin soon.
Street said one project is expected to begin this month.
West Central School Board Discusses ELearning Days
The West Central School Board met in special session on Thursday and discussed eLearning days.
Superintendent Don Street said the corporation utilizes eLearning days after all snow makeup days are spent.
West Central School Board Approves Policy Revisions
The West Central School Board members approved the first reading of policy manual revisions. Superintendent Don Street said there were a few included in the discussion.
“The board approved student suicide prevention and the required plan for seclusions and restraints in schools as well as the military recruiter’s parent opt-out provisions under ESSA,” said Street.
Additional readings will be considered during their meeting in March.
West Central School Board Discusses Enrollment
The West Central School Board discussed enrollment and the number of transfer students coming into the corporation.

No significant cuts are anticipated in this year’s budget for the West Central School Corporation.
West Central School Board Reviews Project Timelines
Several construction and renovation projects will be done at the West Central School Corporation this spring and summer. Superintendent Don Street said the school board reviewed the timeline for the secure entrance and utilization of space projects.
West Central Teachers Receiving Training, Feedback
The math teachers at the West Central School Corporation are getting some extra training. Superintendent Don Street said a trainer was here at the end of January and will be back later this month.
Street also said that two observers will be visiting classrooms.
West Central School Board Approves Resolutions for Upcoming Security Project
Indiana Schools to Receive Less Tuition Support
In his report to the school board last week, West Central School Superintendent Don Street said the Indiana Department of Education notified school districts that tuition support monthly payments will be less.
“The Indiana State Budget for education is less than the total tuition support payments for the schools that have reported,” said Street. “So, we’ll see how that continues with our state legislature.”

West Central School Board Approves Bus Purchase
The West Central School Board approved the purchase of two new buses for the school corporation, according to Superintendent Don Street.
“We’re going to be trading in two, 12-year-old buses for two Collins 78-passenger buses from Midwest Transit Equipment,” said Street.
West Central School Board Moving Forward with Security Project
The West Central School Board members took action Thursday night to move forward with the secure entrance and utilization of space construction project.
Superintendent Don Street said the board held a public hearing on a proposed lease agreement. No public comment was given concerning the lease agreement and if it is fair and reasonable for construction or improvements. An additional appropriation for the bond was approved following a hearing.
West Central School Board to Take Bids for Roofing Projects
The West Central School Board members discussed an upcoming improvement project.
Superintendent Don Street said Adam Weesner from Barton-Coe-Vilamaa presented information on the proposed roof replacement project at the West Central Middle School and auxiliary gym. The current roof is 20 years old
Body Safety Presentation Scheduled at West Central Schools
West Central Middle-High School Principal Pat Culp recently reminded the school board members that a presentation on body safety is set for next week.
