Support continues to grow for a centennial project for the Winamac Town Park’s Memorial Bridge. Residents are raising funds to install a decorative lighting feature in time for the hundredth anniversary of the bridge’s dedication on July 4, 2023.
Continue readingA group of juveniles who were caught vandalizing the Winamac Town Park will have to clean it up, according to the town’s park board president.
Chris Schramm, who’s also a detective with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, told the rest of the board Thursday that town police apprehended the juveniles for spray painting last weekend.

The Winamac Park Board is still waiting for grant funding to be released for the replacement of the Town Park restrooms. The town applied for a Land and Water Conservation Fund matching grant through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources back in 2018.

The Winamac Park Board will hold its first meeting of the year tonight. Residents can expect to see a few park-related projects take shape in 2020. The board is in the process of replacing the restrooms in the front of the Town Park, getting new equipment for the toddler playground, and adding a permanent cornhole court and Frisbee golf course.

Efforts to add decorative lighting to the Winamac Town Park’s Memorial Bridge are drawing community support. Project organizer Greg Henry told the Winamac Park Board Thursday that he’s already heard from people interested in donating. “It’s kind of a big project, much bigger than I anticipated at first,” Henry said. “But it’s going in the right direction.”

The town allows an organizer of “BYOB River Tubing excursions” to use space in the Town Park for part of its trips, which brings in revenue from the rental fee.

Two wildly different bids for the Winamac Town Park restroom project were opened by the park board Thursday. The FORM-IT Corporation submitted a bid of $165,000. Gariup Construction Company’s bid was more than twice that, at $347,500.

The Winamac Park Board is revisiting plans to upgrade the landscaping near the entrance to the fairgrounds, but getting it done it time for this year’s 4-H Fair may prove to be a challenge. Last year, the park board agreed to let the Pulaski County Jr. Leaders replace the entrance sign, remove most of the bushes surrounding it, and replace the wooden posts used as edging.

Park Manager Dave DeLorenzo told the park board last week that 15 of the park’s 18 new trees have now been planted, thanks to Proscapes Unlimited, Dave Bennett, and Park Board Member Jon Chapman. The planting was originally scheduled to take place during a park cleanup day last month, but was delayed by flooding.
