WKVI was at Hensler Nursery in Hamlet on Saturday morning broadcasting live and helping the staff bring in the Christmas season. The 2nd Annual WKVI/Five Star Food Drive was a success Saturday! Several carts of food were donated from patrons in the community who helped make the holidays a little better for those in need this season. WKVI Takes the Morning Show Outdoors
WKVI morning man, Tom Berg, plus Anita Goodan, Nathan Welter and Ed Hasnerl greeted people driving by the radio station this morning as the morning show went outside for the day. The staff enjoyed a beautiful sunrise and continue to enjoy the traffic driving by the station. Stop by and enjoy donuts from Fingerhut Bakery (Anita is in a sharing mood today) and look at an electric car from the Cambe dealership in Knox. Thank you to Five Star and Schwan’s for food today! September 11th Services Scheduled for Sunday
9-11 services are planned throughout the listening area this Sunday.
At Knox, WKVI is sponsoring a Commemoration Ceremony at the Knox High School Football Field from 4:00-5:00 p.m. CT. Among those participating are WKVI personalities Tom Berg, Harold Welter, Ed Hasnerl, and Ted Hayes. Starke County EMS Director, Paul Mathewson, will also speak and vocalist Mae Crider will present special music.
Former WKVI On-Air Personality Tom Belcher Passes Away
We received word that former WKVI morning on-air personality, Tom Belcher, passed away early Tuesday morning. His health had been failing in recent months and was just transferred to Golden Living Center in Knox this week and he passed away at IU Health Starke Hospital.
Tom graduated from Knox High School in 1987 and began as the morning DJ at WKVI in the mid-1990s. He had a great talent for music, singing, dancing and entertaining the residents in the Kankakee Valley. He was 42 years old.
Funeral services are pending with the Braman and Son Memorial Chapel in Knox.

Jim Shilling to be Featured on Friday’s “Ted Hayes Remembers” Program
This week on “Ted Hayes Remembers”, Ted will talk with Jim Shilling.
Jim and Melba Shilling have been in the forefront of collecting and maintaining a history of Starke County for decades. Jim has shown the Starke County Courthouse to hundreds of people, and taken hundreds more on tours of the Starke County Museum.
Ted asked Jim to talk about historical events over the past 50 or so years that have impressed him.

Today at 12:20 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. CT, Ted Hayes will feature former WKVI morning man, John Whitenack on the “Ted Hayes Remembers” program. Mr. Whitenack occupied the “air chair” for 16 years. He especially liked to play the radio games, such as “Hi-Low”.
Random Act of Kindness Event Scheduled for June 12th
The annual Random Act of Kindness event will be held June 12th. Do you know of someone who should be recognized for a single event or continued kindness efforts? If you do, submit them to Darla Cook at the Knox Mayor’s office. The sooner she gets your nomination, the sooner she can invite your nominee to the June 12th celebration. A non-partisan committee will judge the entries.
Starke County Youth Club Radiothon Raises over $35,000
The Starke County Youth Club Radiothon brought in over $35,000 during its annual fund raising event.

Starke County Youth Club to Hold Annual Radiothon Today!
The Starke County Youth Club will be holding its annual Radiothon today from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Youth Club volunteers will be taking pledges at the WKVI studios to help support the after school program.
“We are a youth development organization serving children and families since 2001,” said Irene Szakonyi. “We’re really excited about our fourth annual Radiothon. The phone lines will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. CT for you to call in your pledge to support Starke County children.”
Bryanne Cavender Wins TV Theme Trivia Contest!

Purple Toilet Placed in Yard at WKVI for Relay for Life Promotion
If in the course of your travels you drive by WKVI, you will see a beautiful purple toilet sitting in our front yard. Now you might wonder what that toilet is doing here and especially sitting in our yard.
We were selected to be a part of Starke County Relay for Life’s Toilet Parade.
Someone in Starke County donated the toilet in our honor and we get to proudly display it in our yard.

Junior Achievement Bowl-a-Thon Gathers $4,500
The Junior Achievement Bowl-a-Thon at Bowlaway Lanes in Knox brought in approximately $4,500 Wednesday for the organization, thanks to pledges gathered by the five-member teams bowling from Starke and Pulaski Counties.
All bowlers had a great time with some winning door prizes and other chances to win prizes during Wednesday’s fundraiser. Niki Clemons, Bridget Markin, and all involved with Junior Achievement did a great job planning the event. The WKVI Men’s and Women’s teams participated in the two game event with each team winning a game.
