Knox Board of Public Works Members Get Updates on Blighted Structures

The Knox Board of Public Works received updates on two blighted structures in the city limits.

Jack Fogarty owns the property at 301 S. Shield St. and has tried to refinance with no success and he explained that his financial situation doesn’t support the updates. He understands that the property needs a new roof, exterior work and interior work. He just asked the board for one thing.

“What I’m asking from the board now is just time – time for me to get some things in order and try and make these improvements,” said Fogarty.

The board will work with Fogarty as he applies for loans through the USDA and seeks other avenues for funding. He will give a progress report at the next Knox Board of Public Works meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Lucia Valladares reported that she has met with Knox Director of Building, Planning and Code Compliance Kenny Pfost to gather a list of registered contractors to help her with her renovation efforts at 6 N. Pearl St.

“We met with several of them and made an offer yesterday to one of the contractors. We’ll be working out details of a contract hopefully in the next couple of days and get them working on the house on the plan that we submitted before. I’m not looking to deviate from those renovations,” explained Valladares.

She had been given a time limit, but since she is making efforts to make the necessary renovations, the board is working with her to get the home updated. Valladares will also have to provide a progress report when the board meets on Oct. 25.
