Motorcycle Ride Raises Funds for Memorial Path in Hamlet Town Park

Efforts to add a memorial walking path to the Hamlet Town Park got a major boost, thanks to a recent fundraiser. On September 21, the Hamlet American Legion held a motorcycle ride in memory of Robert J. Tauteris Jr., who died while serving in Afghanistan in 2012. Proceeds will go toward the effort of building a trail in his honor.

Hamlet Park Board President Dave Kesvormas gave an update during last week’s meeting. “They raised a significant amount of money from their ride,” he reported. “He didn’t have an exact figure. They’re going to sit on it, wait until we see what happens with Stellar, and if that’s part of it, it would be a great thing for all involved. Their contribution, plus ours, plus theirs, we could get a lot of things done in the park.”

The Town Park could see a number of upgrades if the Constellation of Starke region is designated a Stellar Community, but the partnership with the American Legion might allow the walking path project to move forward either way. This year’s Stellar designee is expected to be announced in December.
