Winamac Moving Ahead with July 4th Fireworks, Hamlet May Have Display in August

The Town of Winamac is moving ahead with its Fourth of July fireworks. Town Manager Brad Zellers told the town council last week that enough donations have come in, and the contracts with the fireworks company are now in place.

Meanwhile, the Town of Hamlet may have fireworks in August as part of the Yellowstone Trail Festival. Last week, town council members said they had no objection to letting festival organizers hold a fireworks display.

Council Member Brian Earnest encouraged them to seek as many donations as possible, to get the best show. “I’d have Yellowstone shoot out a letter like [Knox Mayor Dennis] Estok does asking everybody in the county for money,” Earnest said. “It’s going to be, essentially, the county fireworks. . . . I mean, it’s in August. I understand why the one’s canceled in July with the restrictions and everything that was on there, but by then, everything should be lifted.”

Town officials generally agreed to move ahead with their usual $1,000 donation to the Yellowstone Trail Festival this year, but they decided to hold the check until next month, to make sure it’s still happening.

Knox officials have discussed the possibility of having fireworks at September’s Fall Bash.
